My name is Eric Lescarbeau. I'm a climate justice activist in Vancouver who has done a lot of work to organize actions like the 5,000 strong November 19th Stop Kinder Morgan, No Consent, No Pipeline rally.
I'm currently working on building the People's Climate Movement March for Jobs, Justice and the Climate in Vancouver on April 29th. Connected with this I'm also spearheading an effort to link up with groups across BC and the rest of the country to establish a People's Climate Movement - Canada that will be able to coordinate mass mobilizations on a national scale. A lot of the work I do is in building relationships with a wide array of Indigenous, Student, Labour and Social Justice and many other activists and organizations and bringing them together around the common goal of stopping climate change. That work includes:
- Phone calls, emails and face to face meetings.
- Organizing meetings, rallies, forums and other actions and events.
- Coordinating the efforts of many dedicated activists and helping to train new activists in the politics, theory and skills of mass movement building.
- Reading, research, note taking and writing articles ( published on Socialist.ca)
Contrary to what Donald Trump claims, few activists get paid for any of the work they do. I'm very thankful for all of the support I have received in the past few months from friends and comrades, knowing how hard you all work for that paycheque.
I'm currently looking for part-time work to supplement my activism but hope to continue to have as much time as possible to dedicate to building this movement, with your assistance.
Any contribution you can make would be appreciated. Gofundme takes about 6% in fees between the bank transfer and the fees for their services so if you know me personally and expect to see me soon you can always donate in person (always happy to meet up for some good conversation as well).
