Equipment 4 Global Hospital@Mount Abu, India

Donation protected
Walking into the J Watumull Global Hospital & Research Centre, one of the six health centres run by the Global Hospital and Research Centre,  I felt at home. Granted that it took 3 flights, 5 hours in a taxi across two Indian states and later a 10 minute bus ride through sacred cows, colourfully dressed women and children returning home from school, but it did feel like home.

Having spent my afternoons after school in the hospital corridors and lab where my mother worked, I felt the familiarity of the white walls, the corridors and waiting rooms. The hospital was also the place where I recovered from three surgeries, some of the most vulnerable moments of my life. I imagine that such vulnerability and the need for healing and care can speak to us all.

In India I was part of another family. Peace of Mind's Team Belgium is composed by Grietje Trudi, Vilma, David, Leo and me (Monica) under Kathryn’s wise and practical guidance. Some born in Belgium, others welcomed there and one unexpected adoption made up this group of very different people with open hearts and wondering souls. The Peace of Mind retreat brought us together in Mount Abu, Rajasthan. During a week permeated by kindness and openness we connected in all our singularity and our humanity.

We now want to give back and want to invite you to give back with us. Whatever the circumstances, we believe that we can embrace gratitude for all that is and step up from a place of inner abundance that inspires sharing and growth.

Just like the hospital expands the resourcefulness of its resources so do we want to use our resources, whatever they may be, to create a sharing experience that will have a true impact on people’s lives.

That is what the Global Hospital is already achieving through the health care services it provides every day and through programs like:
- the Village Outreach Programme: a doorstep health service operating in 21 villages around Mount Abu

- The Smile Train: an initiative that provides cleft lip and cleft palate corrective surgery for children from poor families

It is in this grand spirit that we present this campaign to raise funds for hospital equipment for the Global Hospital & Research Centre. This amount is only a baby step in a list of necessary equipment  that goes all the way to a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machine for the Radha Mohan Mehrotra Global Hospital Trauma Centre, another one of the centres.

Here are some items in the list and the cost in rupees:
- Anaesthetic gas monitor for operation theatre Rs 450,000
- Vital sign monitors and central monitoring system in ICU Rs 3,200,000
- Electrosurgical unit for operation theatre Rs 350,000
- Harmonic scalpel for operation theatre Rs 1,100,000
- Lithotripsy Unit Rs 3,000,000
- MRI machine Rs 40,000,000 (refurbished)
