The Ungala for Equinox Vigil
Now entering its 5th year as a cherished tradition for Calgary families, Equinox Vigil was created in response to the need within our increasingly diverse and secular community for meaningful, contemporary public rituals to honour our deceased and reflect on the universal experience of death.
The way Calgarians have embraced Equinox Vigil speaks volumes to that need. Attendance at this free, non-denominational event grew by 100 percent in its second year of operation and has doubled every year. Those who have attended Equinox Vigil have also responded with overwhelming enthusiasm.
With growing audiences, however, come growing costs. In order to continue offering Calgary families this event in 2016 and beyond, the Equinox Vigil Production Collective is actively seeking donations.
Our annual Ungala asks you to support the Equinox Vigil without the hassle of having to go out to a fancy event! It keeps our costs low and lets every penny we raise go directly back to the Equinox Vigil, helping keep the event FREE for all Calgarians.
Here's some ways we will be using the funds:
- A donation of $50 helps pay for flowers, lights and other visuals
- A donation of $100 helps offset production costs
- A donation of $250 allows us to pay an artist
Please be aware that this year we do not have tax receipting through a fiscal partner. Your donation is much appreciated but will not be tax deductible. Our apologies for this.
What makes Equinox Vigil so significant and special to Calgarians? This comment from one of last year's attendees perhaps expresses it best:
"It was a lovely, magical event in which everyone - artists, organizers, technicians and visitors - seemed to feel part of a peaceful community where tender feelings were honoured and welcomed. A wonderful experience!"
Clearly, Equinox Vigil has proven itself a valuable addition to our city's cultural landscape. In just four years it has positioned itself to become an established annual event with sustained audience growth. That is a remarkable achievement, especially as Equinox Vigil is staffed by volunteers and is funded primarily through donations from individual citizens.
