Save EPHRATA MAIN THEATRE!

I'm Kevin Carvell, an independent film producer ("The Christmas Dragon", "Victory Remembered: Legacy of the Black Devils", "A Dog Named Gucci"), and an Ephrata native.

Recently, news broke that our town's beloved Ephrata Main Theatre, may be closing its doors at the end of the year.  This upset a great many people.  Word and video spread like wildfire on social media.

But how to help?  Well, the theatre already offers first run movies for just $8.  That's up to $3.50 cheaper than the next closest theater.  And concession prices are great, too.  And... they even offer adult beverages!

So, what's the problem?  Well, a few years ago, theaters were FORCED to convert to all-digital projection systems.  And while that makes for a great moviegoing experience, it was a HUGE hit on small town theaters.

I've worked with the Ephrata Main Theatre on numerous occasions for nearly a decade now.  And upon talking with them today, the biggest hang-up is the suffocating debt brought on by the digital projection system.  Their payments on the system are $2,000 per month... and they still owe $60,000.

Bottom line.  If they could pay off the digital projection system, there would be no fear of closing.  But, the amount of attendance comes and goes.  And lately, it just hasn't been enough to maintain payments on the projection system, as well as all of the many other costs of running a theatre.  And they run a lean and tight operation to give the customer the best possible experience... at the best possible price... and with amenities you won't find anywhere else.

I'm supposed to explain here why this means so much to me.  Well, during my lifetime, I've come to two versions of this theatre.  The one built back in the 1930s... and the newly rebuilt one erected 23 years ago.  I've tried to bring the town together here by having Hollywood-style screenings of my films, going back to 2007's Transformers... while always using these screenings as fundraisers or foodraisers for local charities.  But beyond me, I've heard countless fond memories of people spending their childhoods here... whether it was back in the former building or the current one you see today that retains much of the decor of the original.

Can we actually raise $60,000 to finally pay off that digital projection system?  I don't know.  That sure would be fantastic.  But, every dollar raised here will go towards paying it down, at the very least.

Together, let's save another downtown gem before it's gone.  Let's save EPHRATA MAIN THEATRE!

As you may have seen to the right of this fundraiser page, the recipient named is Steve Brown.  He's the owner of Ephrata Main Theatre and has linked the payments from this campaign to automatically feed into an account that directly makes payments towards the mortgage on the digital projection system.

Thank you for your time and consideration.
