How to support National Energy Action this winter

| 4 min read Uncategorized

National Energy Action is an organisation which aims to eradicate fuel poverty in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. With the cost of living crisis in full force, they also aim to raise awareness of the effects that fuel poverty has day to day. If you want to help combat the effects of fuel poverty, you can start a GoFundMe.

Who is National Energy Action?

National Energy Action is working to end fuel poverty in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. The term fuel poverty is defined as having to use 10% or more of your income to keep your house warm. Concerningly, in the thick of the cost of living crisis in 2022, 13.4% of households were classed as being in fuel poverty according to the annual fuel poverty statistics. National Energy Action offers support for fuel poor households as well as advocating for change in legislation.

The difficulties caused by fuel poverty over winter

When the shorter, colder days start to draw in the inevitable happens – we all use more fuel on heating and lighting. This can have a profound effect on people who are already struggling to make ends meet and can force some to choose between heating or eating. Vulnerable people struggling with their health and also struggling to keep their house warm could face increased risk of health problems as well. Fuel poverty paired with the cost of living crisis could cause further problems like debt and struggles with food and nutrition, too. There’s more information about how you can get help or help people struggling in the Cost of Living crisis here.
