Laos Elephant Conservation and school renovation

In July 2019 I will be travelling to Laos in South East Asia;
- I will be volunteering in a local primary school in Sayaboury. This will consist of teaching English, as well as basic hygiene, nutrition, recycling and waste management to the local children, my volunteer group and I will also be assisting in the renovation of the school by up-cycling and installing new play equipment for the children, as well as building new classroom blocks and bathrooms for the school.
- We will also be taking part in volunteering at an elephant conservation park that assists in the aid of encouraging mating and socialisation of the beautiful but endangered species by helping to construct various parts of their sanctuary including the nursery, socialisation area and veterinary clinic, as well as planting and harvesting crops for the elephants, conducting enrichment exercises and observing the elephants during the socialisation process.
Laos was known to be the ‘’Land of a Million elephants.’’ However, with the contribution of factors including the influence of the logging industry which uses domesticated and overworked elephants to essentially destroy their own wild habitat, agricultural activities, the development of industrial infrastructure (for example dams and roads) and also a contribution of the ivory trade, these beautiful, gentle beasts will become extinct in the near future unless there is a drastic increase of reproduction among them.
With your support, my fellow volunteers and I can assist the Elephant Conservation centre, which sensitively supports elephants, helping them to breed, socialise and look after these gentle beasts that were once overworked by and affected by a multitude of destructive factors.
The funds that i'm trying to raise with your help will pay for;
- Building materials needed for all the volunteering projects that my group and I will assist in.
- Hiring of local and skilled trades people to help us in the volunteer projects.
- Accommodation for the duration of the volunteering programme.
- Accompanying VESA staff members.
- My transportation in Laos.
