Elena ____________________________________________________________ Hi my name is Elena I am a 23 yo german girl. I will going to Cambodia at the 16th April 2018 where i join two projects. The first project ist called Home of Hope Home of Hope was set up and started receiving children and patients in 2007. Home of Hope follows the leadership of Mother Teresa, to help the poor without discrimination of race or color. Its purpose is to provide shelter, medical treatment and care for the sick and the poor who have been abandoned and are in need of help. Home of Hope is one of the many orphanages across the world that are run by the brothers of Mother Theresa. There are 36 children and patients in the center. They are split into 4 different groups: - Children with mental disabilities aged from 5 years old. - Adults with mental illnesses, aged over 30 years old. - HIV teenagers aged 13/14 years old. - HIV adults aged over 30 years old. Home of Hope acts as a charity and care center. They have a medical ward. On certain Wednesdays the center opens it's doors and offers medical treatment to the general public. The home is run by 4 permanent brothers and 11 other staff members. The brothers speak good English, however the other staff do not speak any English, but you can easily communicate by gesturing or by asking one of the brothers to help translate for you, they'd be very happy to help you with this. After four weeks at home of hope i will go into a hospital Veterans International (VI), a program of the International Center (IC), is an international humanitarian organisation that addresses the causes, conduct and consequences of war through programs of advocacy and service to the victims of war. VI in Cambodia firmly believes that having an artificial limb or brace and being mobile makes a difference between exclusion and participation in education, employment and community life. VI perform a range of rehabilitative services to people with physical disabilities in Phnom Penh, Kandal, Prey Veng, Svay Rieng and Kratie provinces. These services include: - Provision of prosthetic and orthotic services, - Physiotherapy, - Provision of wheelchairs, - Community based rehabilitation including hospital referrals, - Direct assistance. VI's mission is to support Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) in Cambodia, who are victims of war and who are the poorest among the poor and marginalized in society. They aim to empower these people to build better lives for themselves and their families. The goal is that PWDs and their families can have a better quality of life that is more active and fulfilling and also become an equal member of the community, with equal rights, opportunities and responsibilities. It will mean a lot to me if you would support me with my travel! I need the money to cover the costs of the projects. Any donations are appreciated! I'll try to post regular updates on the volunteer work to keep you informed.
