The current battle is in Mattole River forest, home to untouched areas of towering Oaks, Madrones and Douglas Firs under threat from Humboldt Redwood Company. The defense of this forest dates back over 20 years to the time of Pacific Lumber.
The activist blockade of the main logging road this summer was met with a crackdown by company hired goons who tackled blockaders and threatened them with tasers. Fortunately for the forest the local community responded with protest and public pressure that has slowed the roll of the logging company.
