Ecuador Service Immersion 2018
Donation protected
To my Facebook friends and family,
I am starting this Gofundme on behalf of my upcoming service immersion trip to Guayaquil, Ecuador in June. While 25.6% of Ecuador is currently living below the poverty line, almost 13% of this population is located in Guayaquil alone. I will be traveling there with a small group of students and faculty from Merrimack College through the Rostro de Cristo organization. The mission of this organization is to bring awareness to communities in Ecuador who are facing differing levels of poverty. It calls its volunteers to live as Jesus did and endure the same suffering that these impoverished communities encounter everyday. Rostro de Cristo separates itself from other organizations as it strives to allow us the opportunity to be with these people rather than simply showing up and doing something for them. During our time there we will be participating in a variety of different tasks with the people in these communities. Whether our day will be spent aiding teachers in local classrooms or assisting healthcare professionals in free clinics for Hanson’s Disease, our goal is to stand in solidarity with these people while helping them in anyway that we can each day. Daily, we will be living very simplistically and only using the same amount of resources that these people would normally use. Participating in this trip is very important to me as I hope to pursue a career in law dealing with human rights internationally. Any donation you are able to contribute will not only help with the cost of attending this trip, but will also be used to purchase supplies that the community has informed us they are in need of. Thank you for any and all contributions you can make for this very deserving community of people. I have attached a link to the Rostro de Cristo website if you would like more information on the organization you would be aiding.
“True joy is born from the encounter, from the relationships with others. We must create a culture of encounter, a culture of friendship, a culture in which we find brothers and sisters…They all have something in common with us: they are images of God.”
