Eagle Scout Project For A Women's Shelter

Hello, my name is Joey Kemp. I am a 16-year-old junior in high school, and I am currently the Senior Patrol Leader for Boy Scout Troop 824. Troop 824 is based in the Great Bridge area of Chesapeake, VA. I am currently a Life Scout and working on my requirements for my next rank of Eagle Scout. This is the highest rank that one can achieve while serving as a Boy Scout. One of the final parts of this process is a business-oriented project (known as the Eagle Scout project), for which I recently got my approved. My approved plan is to provide a gazebo on a cement slab for the Burfoot House. The Burfoot House is owned by Centerville Baptist Church in Chesapeake, VA. The building and property are leased to The Burfoot House and is part of the ABBA List. This is a transitional home and comprehensive program designed for homeless single women to achieve self-sufficiency by helping them find employment, learn life skills, money management knowledge, and a variety of other skills. It is designated as a Battered Women's Shelter and is eligible to single homeless women. The home is located in the Hickory area of Chesapeake, VA, and can accommodate up to 10 women at a time. There currently no place for them to relax outside. This project will provide that for them. Unfortunately, gazebos and concrete are very expensive, and I am trying to complete my rank of Eagle Scout prior to submitting my college applications this summer. I am currently working on fundraising to finance this project. I am also looking for donations.
