Hello! We are Annia Ciezadlo and Zora O'Neill. We both write about food, travel, war, the Middle East, and how good people help each other when times get tough.

Right now, thousands of refugees from Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, and other war-torn countries are coming to Greece every day. They're showing up exhausted, sunburned, dehydrated... and hungry.

Unfortunately, the Greek economy is already devastated from economic collapse and the European Union's austerity programs. So there isn't much there to help refugees.

Enter "O Allos Anthropos," which is Greek for "The Other Human."

It was founded in 2009 by Kosta Polychronopoulos, a Greek man who lost his job during the economic collapse. After he saw two kids fighting over food from a garbage can, he decided to spend his time cooking and eating meals on the streets with Greece's hungry, homeless, and unemployed—and its refugees and migrants too.

Today, this tiny group of Greek volunteers, with no outside funding, cooks enormous communal meals and shares them in the streets and refugee camps of Greece.

This August, we saw O Allos Anthropos feeding thousands of people in a refugee camp on the Greek island of Lesbos.

Annia wrote about it here:
http://www.upworthy.com/this-kid-came-up-to-ask-how-much-the-food-cost-i-told-him-it-was-free and

And Zora mentioned it here, in her great list of ways to help refugees: http://rovinggastronome.com/mainblog/2015/08/22/three-ways-to-help-refugees-on-mytilene/

After they saw Kosta's story, some beautiful, kind-hearted people messaged us to ask how they could donate to O Allos Anthropos. Unfortunately, most crowdfunding sites don't include Greece in their list of supported countries. And banks charge a mint to send money from US bank accounts to European ones. And don't even ask us about the capital controls brought on by austerity, because you don't want to know.

So we set up this page to make it easier for people who wanted to donate to the group.

Whatever you donate, we will send it to Kosta, the founder of O Allos Anthropos. He will use it to buy pasta, tomato sauce, and other simple foods to feed all the hungry people he meets—no matter who they are or where they are from.
