Hello Friends, my name is Kevin Bass from Conway.  I am a private citizen working independently to raise funds for a 9-11 FD Memorial.

On December 10, 2015, I walked into the Central Fire Station on my lunch hour in order to get a burn permit. When I entered the door to the firefighter's living quarters my heart froze for a moment.

Just inside the door was a massive piece of steel.  An old I-Beam... rusted, bent, twisted bolts.  I instantly recognized where it came from and everything else on my ‘to-do’ list began to fade as I reached out and touched the steel, recalling again that day, and reflecting on the story this piece tells.

343 firefighters died instantly, along with 60 police officers and thousands of other innocent people.   It will never erase from our  memories.

Firefighter Mark McEntire told me that they were ‘fortunate to have obtained the piece', and that they envisioned a Firefighters Memorial where it could be prominently displayed outside of Central Station.   I asked how far along they were on the project and they said “We don’t have any funding”.    I could tell that the artifact carried a lot of meaning for our firefighters.  "Well, I’m good for the first $100" I thought.  But as in many areas of life, just ‘thinking’ is not enough, so I decided to create this page and see what we could make happen.

If you live in Faulkner County and would like to be part of something lasting and help move this piece to a place where it can be seen by all, to help us ‘never forget’, and to honor our own, please consider giving, any amount of course.

Our goal is $15,000 for the project.   The more we can raise the better the memorial can be, and our local firefighters should have a say in the final design (the picture above is conceptual).

Any funds not ultimately spent on the memorial will be donated back to the Conway FD.

These guys would just as quickly run into any burning building in Conway just as the brave men and women ran into the Twin Towers on 9-11.  We should be able to do this both for them, and for our city.

I'm for the first $100... Anybody else?

Thanks to ALL who donated to this project through GoFundMe as well as offline. We have consulted with the city of Conway as well as the CFD memorial committee and agree that the needed funds are now sufficient. As of the week of 5-9, the Conway City Counsel voted unanimously to allocate all donated funds toward the project and the Conway FD. Well done everyone, now comes the fun part, construction is in full swing!!

$5 FB FRIEND CHALLENGE - 911 Memorial
(if you can't afford it, I'll donate on your behalf)!

Hello FB Friends. Although our fundraiser is only a few bucks shy of $3,000 (woo hoo!) we still have a decent way to go if we're to have any chance of getting the project completed before the 15th 911 anniversary this year.

So, I'm asking (no, I'm begging) all of my 550+ F B friends if they can afford just FIVE DOLLARS towards the project. I've said many times that "If I have to do this five bucks at a time, I'm willing to do it". But think about it.. a 'successful' $5 'KB friend challenge' would nearly DOUBLE today's amount- so please to all my friends, just couple of minutes and five bucks could rock this thing in one night...... And it's about to snow, what else you got going?!?!

Also- any of you who would like to give but truly can't afford it, message me on FB and Judy & I will donate $5 under your name on the site (first 20 messages)!

And please, to all of my FB friends who've already given, THANK YOU and surely know that I'm not hounding you to give again. I really hate asking for money in any way so this sorta sucks. But my passion to see this done is definitely compelling....)

Also if you're wondering what this is all about, here's a link to a recent DemGaz article you'd like read: http://www.arkansasonline.com/news/2015/dec/20/conway-man-launches-fundraiser-911-memorial/

God Bless all of you, and God Bless America- Please help us make this happen, and PLEASE SHARE!!!

2016 Facebook friends, PLEASE SHARE!!!!!!!!!

Hello and HAPPY NEW YEAR everyone!

Well the holidays have passed and we're kicking the 911 memorial campaign BACK INTO GEAR! We're really working to reach the goal within the next 2 months if we have ANY chance of dedicating ta new site by this Sept 11, the 15yr anniversary of when the USA was attacked our world changed forever. To all of our friends and family who have been able to give, THANK YOU. To anyone still on the fence I would encourage you PLEASE read the DemGaz article on this sobering artifact (see below) and consider again anything you can do to help.

We've been contacting businesses and business owners and are hoping to see a lot of activity this month. Wouldn't it be cool to drive by the Central Fire Station 10, 20 years from now and being able to say 'I helped build a place for that beam'? There's still time to be a part of this and we're just a few bucks shy of hitting the $3,000 mark, WooHoo!!!

Happy new year again and may the Lord bless you all in 2016 beyond your wildest dreams!

Merry Christmas Everyone.
Approaching the $3,00 mark today. We're hoping that the next few weeks continue to see increased interest, and that we will be able to dedicate the new WTC memorial site on 9-11 next year, 15yr anniversary. Also thrilled that the Democrat Gazette ran a front-page story on our campaign (River Valley & Ozark Section) in the Sunday Edition. Click the link below to read, excellent piece written by Tammy Keith:
