Durham, NC Rapid Response Project

Help grassroots organizers to fight against family separation.

As community organizers in Durham, We have been organizing and helping families who have been torn apart by ICE for the last two years. As ICE has increased the number of ICE officers in the ground and more aggressive tactics in how to approach and arrest people, we have had the urgency to organize the community to reduce the risk of being detained by ICE but also how to create an emergency plan if arrested.

On February 6th ICE raids were conducted across North Carolina specially in Durham as more than 30 immigrants were arrested, and we were able to help directly at least 5 families whom love ones were transferred to Stewart Detention Center in Georgia.

Our goal is to provide support to undocumented families in Durham by…

1.     Organizing a rapid response team to monitor ICE present and checkpoints in the community.
2.      Providing information on mental health and social support through home visits.
3.     Empowering the community through know your rights training in neighborhoods
4.     Providing information about existing trusted, low, free legal services at least twice a month or as needed at the flea market.
5.     Helping families to set telephone accounts so they love ones can communicate with them while detained.
6.     Organizing transportation and/ or provide gas to drive families to detention centers
7.     Providing stipends to community organizers
