Dream Big - We Are The Future

Please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Audrey Menard and I recently won the title of Miss Dinuba 2018. My platform was on the issue of foster children and how adrift they can feel when placed in a foster home. I am calling this campaign the “Dream BIG - We Are The Future” program.  My idea to help address this was to assemble welcome bags which would consist of a small duffel bag filled with personal hygiene items , a custom "Dream BIG" sleep t-shirt, a small throw blanket or stuffed animal, and a book or journal depending on the age group. These bags would be dispersed to children as they are newly placed in the foster care system.   I would like to assemble at least 100 bags by Christmas.

I would like to share the following quote from an email I received regarding this need: “Many times, our kiddos come into placement with absolutely nothing. They also at times have never had their very own toothbrush, etc. In years past, we provided a small bag for them; however, with cutbacks and other needs, we stopped this practice. I absolutely love the custom t shirt! Transitioning into foster care can be extremely traumatic and all items they can "call their own" is greatly appreciated.” Micki D. Prins, M. Please help me raise enough funds to procure new, unused duffel bags, contents and t-shirts.  The idea that they have been anticipated and are welcomed will go a long way to encourage these foster children that they belong and they have permission to dream big.  It will also help them to believe their identity doesn't have to be based on their past, which means there is nothing to stop them from living out their full potential and achieving their dreams.
