DORMAN RISING & REBUILDING

The Sonoma wildfires erupted on the night of October 8.  Our parents Tim and Lauri Dorman woke to a neighbor banging on the door, shaking the walls of the house, yelling of fire.  They left immediately with their dog and the clothes on their backs.  The fire jumped Highway 12, coming off the mountain and barreled down the street like a freight train -- unimaginable heat, force and speed. The neighborhood and their property was leveled within hours.  

As we write this, it is 4 days later and the fires continue in close proximity.  Evacuations are holding, the National Guard is on post in town, the property is smoldering, and Tim and Lauri have not returned even to view.  The video above sent by a farmer who went to check for them.  Our entire family is staying together, safely 30 miles away.  They are shell shocked, grieving, putting one foot in front of the other, and at the same time overwhelmed with the outpouring of love and support from family and friends. 

So begins the work of rebuilding a life.  

It is uncomfortable and vulnerable territory for any family to ask for help on this scale.  These are shoes nobody imagines standing in.  And yet here we are.  Gifts will go toward the gap between what is insured and the cost of recovery and rebuilding.  Tim and Lauri are tremendously grateful for you and truly, they do not bear these darkest days alone.
