When Ben and I got married 5 years ago, we figured we would be on the typical track; Get married, have kids, etc. We would have never expected that the track we thought we wanted, was about to take us on a wild adventure.
Flash forward to today--Endometriosis surgery, injections, 3 IUI’s, and 2 IVF’s only to find out that my egg quality had been destroyed by endometriosis.
A quick summary of our LONG Journey
02/2013 – Saw OBGYN about severe bleeding and pain, had ultrasound, found nothing.
06/2013 – Had melanoma removed from me left cheek. (You’ll find out why this is important later)
08/2013 – Stopped Birth Control.
09/2013 – Went to IM Doctor for severe back pain on my right side.
03/2014 – Went to IM Doctor about severe pain in my right shoulder.
05/2014 – Went to OBGYN about heavy bleeding and pain.
08/2014 – Went to OBGYN about heavy bleeding and pain, had ultrasound.
09/2014 – Went to IM Doctor about chest pain getting worse.
10/2014 – Back to OBGYN about cycles and heavy bleeding.
10/2014 – XRAY and Stress test done for chest pain, All Normal.
11/2014 – OBGYN preformed SIS and found thickening on the uterus that was said to most likely be a polyp.
11/2014 – Surgery to remove polyp, they discovered that nothing was there.
11/2014 – Doctor Appointment at Convenient Care about pain in side, front and back.
01/2015 – HSG (Hysterosalpingogram, checks for blocked Fallopian tubes/dye test - all clear)
05/2015 – IUI #1 with Clomid, HCG injection & Crinone Gel. BFN
06/2015 – IUI #2 with Clomid, HCG injection & Crinone Gel. BFN
07/2015 – Complained to OBGYN about pain in side and heavy bleeding.
07/2015 – Seen in Convenient Care for pain in side.
08/2015 – Timed Intercourse with Clomid, HCG injection & Crinone Gel. BFN
09/2015 – Seen in Convenient Care for pain in side.
09/2015 – Saw IM Doctor about pain in side, he suggested gallbladder issues.
09/2015 – HIDA Scan, which showed gallbladder was working fine.
10/2015 – EGD, upper scope – Came back normal.
11/2015 – OBGYN referral to RE, Dr. Reuter in Carmel, Indiana for Fertility. She is the best!
11/2015 – IUI #3 with Follistim and HCG injection. 2 Follicles both measuring at 21. BFN
12/2015 – Still no improvement. Regular doctor sent my back to General Surgery to have gallbladder removed and stop all fertility treatment.
12/2015 – Laparoscopy procedure to remove Gallbladder. Surgeon found severe stage 4 endometriosis covering my ovaries and complete right side all the way up to my diagram.
02/2016 – IVF #1, Follistim 300 Units, Menopur 150IU, Lupron, HCG injection, Estradiol. 12 Follicles. Retrieved 4 eggs, 2 didn't make it, 2 put back into my uterus, both lost. BFN
05/2016 – IVF #2, Follistim 300 Units, Menopur 150IU, Lupron, HCG injection, Estradiol. 9 Follicles. Retrieved 4 eggs, 2 didn't make it, 2 put back into my uterus, both lost. BFN
05/2016 – Informed that I would never have a child with my own eggs due to the endometriosis being so severe for so long.
With endometriosis we do not have much time to try to conceive before it grows back. We have decided to pursue IVF through Donor Eggs. Unfortunately is process is very costly and we do not have fertility coverage with our health plan.
Doctor: $9500
Eggs: $3500-$10,000
Facility Fee: 6000
This process would allow for a donor (which we choose) to go through the IVF process for us in hope to transfer an embryo for me to carry to term.
How It Works:
For your gift of $20 or more, your name will be written on the back of a puzzle piece. As all of the pieces have names, the puzzle will be assembled. I will be updating my blog with the progress of the puzzle as it is formed so you can see the beautiful puzzle you're helping to create for our precious baby. After the puzzle is complete, we will frame the puzzle between two pieces of glass. This will be a wonderful keepsake for our child to see all of the generous friends and family who supported us on this journey and helped bring him/her into our lives and "piece our family together".
