Edison Drew Savage was born into this life on November 5, 2018. He was born just like any other sweet, beautiful baby. You saw him, and instantly saw beauty. Ten tiny toes, ten wiggly fingers. Sweet little pursed lips. On the outside, things appeared to be perfectly normal. Katie, Greg and those around them knew baby boy had a defect with his heart, and he was going to be extra special. He needs extra love and care, and everyone around him is ready to give it to him. He is our Heart Warrior.
He was born with a rare congenital heart condition called HLHS. Basically, the short version is, the left side of his heart did not form properly. It would have required many open heart surgeries over his young lifetime. He has currently had 2 open heart surgeries, at OSF Children's hospital in Peoria, and many other procedures to help him along in his life. He has been in the hospital since birth, the first surgery happened at 9 days old. The Doctors and Nurses have been incredible in helping maintain Edison's health and care, and providing the best care thus far in Edison's journey.
Currently, Edison's situation has changed, and they are trying to transfer him to a different hospital. At this point, there are many unknowns and it is new territory for The Savage family. Edison will need a heart transplant. They are working on the details of adding Edison to the heart transplant list, as they feel like this will be the next step for him.
Katie has not left his side since birth, and Greg has not been able to return to work, due to many emergency medical moments that have occurred. They have a 2 year old daughter, named Gemma (Edison's BIG SISSY!) who is being cared for by both sets of grandparents. She is in great hands! Greg and Katie live an hour and a half from the hospital, and many factors have came up, they have not been able to leave the hospital for long periods of time. It has truly been an unknown journey for their family. They give Edison their overflowing love daily with sweet words to him, head rubs, and finger holds. He knows they are there, because he can feel their warm love.
This money is needed for medical bills, and their family needs, as Greg will be unpaid starting this week. It is for an amazing cause, and I truly hope this great family will be generously blessed, because I know they have touched so many with their love, kindness, generosity, and friendship.
Edison is a fighter. He has proven that he is so strong , and he has the will to live. He has been thrown so much in his little life, and he keeps overcoming. Edison means, prosperity and wealth, and we would love nothing more, than to see that for him, a long life surrounded with the riches of this life, and memories with him and all who love him.
