Justice for Yaro

Donation protected

Yaro is my dad's best friend and I am fighting hard for both of them so that they don't lose each other.

In two days on Friday August 29, 2014, Yaro needs to get special testing done to determine the cause of damage in his skull from a vaccine given to him through his nose in the middle of June of this year.  Yaro's eye on the side of his face the vaccine was given on now has an inflamed third eye lid and he has trouble breathing out of that side of his nose as a result.  It has been about ten weeks that Yaro has had trouble breathing and has had a cough and weird issues where he snorts just to breath in properly through his nose.  We needs your help to cover the expenses of this testing as well as future care for him after they figure out what is wrong with him.  We just want our dog back!

thank-you!

My and my dad's best friend, our companion, Yaro, has become ill. It all started when he was given an intra-nasal vaccine for canine bordetella. If I had just trusted my gut instinct to not give it to him in the first place he would more than likely be fine right now. But I trusted the vets who were treating him and believed that giving Yaro a vaccine that was preventative would be the best measure I could take to give my dog a healthy life. The very next day the cough started. And then the snorting where he was fighting to breathe properly. It all progressed over the next six weeks. Of course we took him back immediately and they told us it would wash over. At week six, when the kennel cough bacteria should have taken its course, Yaro was still coughing and I felt like the worst owner in the world. How could I have allowed him to be exposed to such poor care? I hated myself. At this point we got Yaro on a course of antibiotics to kill the 'live bacteria' that was injected into Yaro via the vaccine. We learned that in some cases the live bacteria in the vaccine causes the disease it is protecting against. Our dog was part of that statistic. The antibiotics put the cough at bay, and for about a week we thought it had worked. Unfortunately, the coughing and snorting continued and now we are at week ten. Yaro also experienced severe eye issues on the side of his face that the vaccine was inserted in to the point that his eye lid puffs out from below. The doctor now thinks there is inflammation from a tumour there, perhaps caused or aggravated by the vaccine, or it could be a blocked eye duct from the vaccine. Furthermore, he has trouble breathing out of that nostril now that he had the vaccine go up in which significantly compromises his sleep. Poor babe.

When I look at my baby, and see his droopy eye, I hate that I let the bad guys win. If only I had trusted my instinct we might be in the real blissful dogs days of summer. But instead, he has been sick all summer long. So now, with the help of new vets, we are going to try to see what is wrong with Yaro. We need to investigate why there is so much pressure on his eye, and why he has trouble breathing out of the side of the nose that the vaccine went into.

Isn't he handsome? This is what he looks like when he gets his thick winter coat shaved off for the summer,

So far, I have spent close to $1000 just taking him to the vet to get treated and examined. Now, I will require another $1000 to get him tested with x-rays and aspirations of his lymph nodes which will require anaesthetics and hospital stay. Furthermore, the vet recommended a teeth cleaning to reduce any pressure under his eyes and around his nose, as the vaccine caused great inflammation in this area that may have worsened his gingivitis and caused an abscess under his eye within the gum line.

The vet will let us know what steps we need to take next once he is fully examined. One option is surgery to alleviate the inflammation in his skull should that be the cause, or he may have a blocked tear duct (which I found to be common with this vaccine) which will also require surgery. Regardless, I know I am looking at another $1000-$2000 to fix my baby up after the results come back. This has certainly been the most expensive $17 vaccine I have ever given to my dog. My hope is that this will get the word out in the world about this canine bordetella vaccine, and (although I am in fair support of most vaccine for dogs) I hope that no other dog will suffer the same consequence that my dog has suffered from a poorly made vaccine. I'm sure the company that manufactures it are billionaires and my wish is to sue them to stop this madness for the statistic of dogs that succumb to the side effects of this vaccine like Yaro has. Catching kennel cough is much less worse than having a ubiquitous amount of bacteria shoved up the nose only to linger there with the other chemicals that it was bound with. I hope and pray that no other dog will ever suffer the same way that my dog has from this seemingly benign vaccine which has waged a full on war in his system.

I'm not very good at asking for help, so here's to this shot in the dark, but I need to put my pride to the side so that I can afford to help my best friend. So, I now ask for your help and your prayers that Yaro will be okay during his X-rays and aspirations where he will be under full anesthetic (he already has trouble breathing out of one nostril and the tubes inserted into his lungs will help him breath properly). And I humbly ask for your financial assistance to see Yaro through this tough and trying time into a healthier and comfortable part of his life that he wouldn't otherwise be experiencing if he hadn't taken that unfortunate vaccine.

I thank everyone who has taken the time to stop by this page and please know that Yaro thanks you too that you have showed such kindness to help him feel better.

Bless you all.

The thing about dogs is they love you no matter how bad you make mistakes.  They have unwavering trust in you, and I hope to stand up to the level of trust Yaro has placed in me.

Yaro is as much a part of our family as any human ever has been.  We rescued him from the animal shelter after he was abandoned by his family that left him in their backyard and then they moved to Florida.
Winter is his favourite and I hope he makes it healthily to this coming winter.
