Dogs Just Want to have Fun

I work as a volunteer at the Caldas da Rainha dog shelter in Portugal (Caldas da Rainha Associação Protectora dos Animais Abandonados).

This is normally our fund raising page for a our doggy play park but I am hijacking it temporarily to support our BBC TV and Radio campaign to find Hazel a home.

Hazel was found at the roadside with 2 puppies, despite being no more that a pup herself.  She was in a very poor state when she came to the shelter and despite treatment from the vet for what we thought was a virus she didn't improve.  We had to remove her pups early as they were also becoming ill.   They have now got new homes.

Eventually we had her x-rayed and were horrified to find a large amount of shotgun pellets throughout her entire body.  She was suffering from lead poisoning.

I have now been fostering her for a couple of weeks while on extensive drug treatment  and she's back to fit and healthy.  She is a dog with a fantastic nature, if, understandably, a bit nervous.  She has obviously been a pet as she's housetrained and walks on a lead.  She needs training clearly, but will make someone the most amazing companion.

We are looking for money to get Hazel to the UK, inncoculations, passport and transport and also money to cover her vet bills in Portugal. 

Please consider adopting Hazel she's great with other dogs and livestock although she hasn't seen a cat here.  The vets tell us there is no reason why she can't have a long and heathy life.  Portuguese dogs are used to being left alone for long periods and are generally lower maintainance that UK dogs!

If you can't offer Hazel a home please help us with her bills.  If we are lucky enough to raise more than we need for Hazel the money will go towards the substantial vets bills the shelter incurs.
