Disabled Veteran in Need

JT is a single working dad raising two children on his own. He honorably served his country in the United States Marine Corps where he was deployed to Iraq in 2003 and 2006-2007. During his second deployment he earned his combat action ribbon after encountering numerous fire fights and disarming road side bombs. During this time, he was wounded by a landmine after his vehicle rolled over it. Despite his injuries, JT continued to go on daily missions. He did not let these injuries slow him down. He was honorably discharged from the Marines and went straight into the fire service where he was a professional firefighter/paramedic and continued to serve his community for almost 10 years. Despite working and raising two children, he found time to return to college to further his education. He graduated from Ivy Tech with an A.S. Degree in Business Administration. He is currently attending Goshen College where he will graduate in February with a B.S. degree in Organizational Leadership. He has done all this while actively seeking treatment for PTSD. JT does not let anything stand in his way of bettering himself and his family. Two months ago he started a new career as an operations manager for a 1st aid company. Before his insurance started JT got very sick and was hospitalized for 6 days and underwent three surgeries in three weeks. The doctors removed gall stones in the first procedure and then did an emergency surgery to remove his gallbladder. His gallbladder was nearly gangreneish and caused him to get pancreatitis. The emergency surgery saved his life, however this was just the beginning of the ongoing complications to come. He continued to be jaundice and experience uncontrollable itching all over his body. This went on for nearly two weeks keeping him up during the night during this time, despite him being exhausted. He was again hospitalized and underwent more testing. He was informed that his bilirubin count was extremely high, which was causing the jaundice and itching. Additional testing revealed that he has a rare genetic disease called Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis (PSC). This is where the bile ducts narrow and become dense, which does not allow the proper flow of the poisonous chemical bilirubin to be processed. There is no known cure to this disease besides a liver transplant. The disease makes him highly susceptible to colon, bile duct and liver cancers. He will have to be closely monitored yearly for these cancers. Being that he just started a new job, his insurance does not begin until September of 2016. He was blessed that the VA will cover the charges for his first hospitalization since it was considered a life threatening emergency, however they will not cover the additional hospitalization and surgery he went to have his bile ducts stented. He still has thousands of dollars of medical bills that he will be responsible for paying out of pocket. He will undergo additional testing and medical procedures over the next few months. One of these procedures will be before his insurance kicks in. He is not the type to ask for help, and he is dead set on paying off these medical bills on his own. Being his mother, I just want the best for him and for him to be healthy and happy. He has given so much of his life up serving his country and community. He has truly dedicated himself to others and is a humble man who loves to help those in need. I am worried the added stress of these unplanned medical bills will affect his health and prohibit him in getting better and keeping this disease under control. We are asking for donations to help with these unexpected medical bills. Any amount will be extremely appreciated. Thank you for taking the time to read about my son.
