If you are reading this you are probably a Nichelle Nichols fan and you have likely heard that she is going through a legal situation in regards to the status of her estate, the money she has made over the last 5 or so years and her health thus her dignity. Sharing this video publicly instead of sharing this video directly with a Judge is something that I have not really wanted to do. This is a private but alas a public matter by nature and I have held off on it for long enough. Nichelle told me that I would know when to share this video publicly and now is the time.
This GoFundMe Campaign has been created to do the following things;
1.) To help Nichelle pay for the Legal help she needs to protect her rights and to acknowledge her wishes to remain in her own home versus a rest home facility. *(This change is due to the Conservator’s first question to our attorney was “do you have the check from GoFundMe”, when I believe she is one of the individuals not wanting to acknowledge Nichelle’s desires and charging an exorbitant amount of money against Nichelle’s income and then stating that Nichelle has no money. Her son asked me this same question and no one appears to be fighting for Nichelle’s wishes to be acknowledged instead Nichelle is still being placed in rest homes against her will, I believe the funding would be better suited to go directly to the attorney’s. No funds have been withdrawn from GoFundMe at this point. These mentioned funds remain a gift to Nichelle and are going strictly to her benefit. Please check with GoFundMe to verify.)

2.) To help Nichelle legally, to NOT be forced to live in a rest home facility by a Conservator who hasn’t competently evaluated Nichelle’s needs or wishes. And if she has a Conservator it should be one that truly cares about Nichelle’s desires in life and does not add exorbitant cost to Nichelle’s income.
3.) To help Nichelle to be able to pay for in-home daily care / and travel assistant.
4.) To help Nichelle to achieve her wishes by legally supporting her desire to continue to work, sign her autographs at conventions, and to live life as she has requested to live it, please view “NICHELLE’S OWN WORDS” on YouTube.
Let me state that I do not enjoy placing myself in such a situation but delivering this video to whomever needed to see it was a request made to me by Nichelle in 2013, please see “NICHELLE’S OWN WORDS” on YouTube. And given this promise I made to Nichelle, and the promise I made to look out for her, if or when, someone tries to place her in a rest home again, no matter who it may be, I plan on keeping my word.

My name is Angelique Fawcette, I am a good friend of Nichelle Nichols, Lt. Uhura to some, a name that she proudly answers to as well. To me she is simply Nichelle….my friend. Approximately 5 years ago Nichelle had an extreme health scare in which she was hospitalized and then when she was released from the hospital she was placed in a rest home facility. I remember the very first day she was in the rest home and my husband Steven Fawcette and I went to visit her, and there my friend sat on a bed which was in actuality a cot, with urine under it that was not hers. I was appalled and remember immediately notifying the nurse that the floor needed to be cleaned in her room. Nichelle was moved into the hallway while they cleaned and Steve and I sat with her, tears fell down Nichelle’s face as she asked us, “why am I here, why am I not home, please get me out of here”. We explained with great love and sadness that we were not blood relatives and that we could not take her home….she continued to cry and we sat with her until closing, we visited her each day she was there with the exception of maybe one day, eventually she got better but she was still very upset and hurt over being there at all. Well, one day a man who we thought was a friend to her “busted” her out of the facility. Nichelle was overjoyed and relieved and requested that she get a lawyer right away so she was never forced by anyone to stay or live in a rest home again.
HER HEALTH
Let me say first of all that Nichelle is good, she is usually her happy self and she tries to enjoy life to the fullest in the most positive way she can. But given that she has been diagnosed with short term memory loss, which has been reported through the media by her son, which is a form of dementia, she does not remember everything. She may ask you the same question quite a few times or she may ask you where is she going, quite a few times because she simply doesn’t remember. But alas, she knows “who” she is, she knows specifically when she is home, she knows when she is “not” going out on trips or to conventions, she knows when she is stuck in the house alone with nothing to do. She feels like something is wrong without her scheduled trips. Nichelle is still in a mentally conscious state of being even with her memory loss. Please refer to a good example of someone who had memory loss, Alzheimer’s, Glen Campbell, who was a performer but who still loved and was able to perform even with such a diagnosis.
HER ESTATE
Nichelle is currently in jeopardy of losing her entire property in which she has worked extremely hard for and which she has owned for decades. I have personally seen her mysteriously lose other items from her house in which I have not seen anything as of yet done about it, even though I reported it to those who were/are in authority over Nichelle.
HER FINANCES
There is currently a public court case for Nichelle Nichols in regards to all of these topics but in regards to her finances if she is not allowed to work as she used to, such as her events being cancelled, she cannot properly pay her bills, she could then lose her home and personal space she has come to love. Her current Talent Manager, a person that I thought was trustworthy because Nichelle trusted him is being accused of allegedly misappropriating her salaries for various conventions and events. This team that the mentioned Manager is on, is the team that is still creating posts for her on social media thus making statements for Nichelle etc .
A temporary court appointed conservator has been assigned to look over Nichelle’s finances, health well-being, employment opportunities/conventions etc, choosing her assistant/medical assistant etc. Who I have been informed has been cancelling Nichelle’s various events that promote her conventions. Now too many conventions a month is too much for an 85 year old, but Nichelle deserves the right to go to as many as she would want to go to within reason, at minimum 2 or 3. She enjoys her time off but she also loves getting up and going places, as well as making money as you will see and hear from her within this video.
THE ISSUE
This is not an easy situation to be in, Nichelle not being a blood relative, and me not having any authority to do really anything but to watch over Nichelle as she requested. Personally, I make it a point to not involve myself in anyone’s business but when a friend comes to me and asks for help I am going to do my absolute best to help them, be for there them, stand up for them and if I make a promise I am for damn sure going to keep it. Also, this particular situation puts me at odds with those around her which I do not prefer to be, but if those around her do not want to comply with Nichelle’s personal life requests, then at odds I will be until I complete the task she asked of me.
The fact is, is what Nichelle has been enduring has been absolutely terrible. As mentioned she has two homes on her property, a property that she worked very hard for over the years and a property she deserves to keep. The Talent Manager was her Power of Attorney, he handled her finances for each and every event that Nichelle attended, and Nichelle seemed quite happy with that. Which was good with me, as long as she was happy I was happy too. But here comes the bad part. After about 2.5 years of knowing her, I watched as the house that the Manager was living in began to be upgraded, which was fine right, he made his percentage off of bookings for Nichelle and could buy a few things. But then it became strikingly obvious that the property that he was living in was getting serious upgrades and the property that Nichelle is living in was declining. Then a very long time assistant who loved Nichelle got terminated and then came a new assistant who apparently did not want anyone around Nichelle. Nichelle would say to me, when are you coming over to spend the night again? I ‘d say I’m coming next week, then I’d come over the next week and the assistant would tell me that Nichelle wasn’t available, could only see me for a few minutes, she even thought she was slick listening to my conversations with Nichelle. And each time I visited I kept seeing items missing from Nichelle’s walls, items that she would never move. Then I saw her once full garage, which included items given to her by Gene Roddenberry was empty. The assistant once saw me drive up, let down the garage door fast and then locked the front door so I could not get in. Moving ahead, when THIS assistant finally got terminated, I had to prepare Nichelle for her 85th birthday party. I go upstairs to her closet to get a gown for Nichelle to wear and her entire walk-in closet which you would expect for a woman who has worked as a singer, dancer, actress, producer, NASA recruiter would have, and it was EMPTY. Maybe 6 or 7 items were hanging in her closet. All of her furs, gowns, business suits, blouses, shoes, and handbags were all gone! Even the items my husband and I bought her were gone! Even the Christmas Tree we bought Nichelle to put up every year was gone! Now please understand for animal lovers, I am an extreme animal lover myself and I know Nichelle loves dogs, her generation was of a different consciousness, they wore real furs, it’s what kept them warm and was stylish. Nonetheless, I subsequently went out and bought her an entire new wardrobe, and gave her coats from my closet that I had never worn because I did not want her to be cold while traveling on airplanes to her conventions. Also, her new assistant went and bought her a few things as well.
Now, as all of this was happening, I shared this information with the Talent Manager and with a family member. But nothing was really done. I told the old assistant she had better return the items to the front gate but she did not of course. So nothing was done and I sat hoping that those in charge would do something.
Then, the Talent Manager asked my husband, Steve to help him marry Nichelle so that her son would not get anything of Nichelle’s, then within a few days the Manager spoke about it around me, I was disgusted. I told the family member that they had better do something fast before this becomes a reality as I know that Nichelle wants all of her belongings to go to her son when she passes over.
Then when the court case came out against the Talent Manager and what he had allegedly done, I realized that even the approximately $6,200 cash that I had given the Manager for Nichelle’s household over the years was probably never even used for her. Not to mention other items that we believe her manager mis-handled with my husband.
Also, Nichelle Nichols has now been appointed a temporary court-appointed conservator, I thought that was great, but now after a recent Comic-Con convention, I was told that the conservator is now stating Nichelle Nichols still has no money. What? Where is the money? I will not experience Nichelle go through one more time of money being allegedly misappropriated without doing something. I will fight for her rights since she cannot do it herself.
Also, currently the Conservator and the new assistant is stating the Nichelle is tired and should not be attending conventions. Let me tell you, I believe that Nichelle’s greatest joy is her fans. She lives for you! Wants to be see you, wants to be with you, enjoys her time with you, enjoys new fans young and old, not in a fake way either. People are what keeps Nichelle going. And certainly, she is 85 and needs valued time off from time to time but it is still in her heart to live, thrive, live in her home until her last days and enjoy the fandom that she has cared about all of these years. Now I have never even spoken to this conservator, even though I have apparently been on a list for the conservator to call for months now because Nichelle and I are close. I have received neither a phone call or email from this mentioned conservator. When you are appointed a job especially when it involves caring and looking out for another human being’s life, health and finances it is your responsibility to be thorough and competent which I feel she is not, given the fact that I have been informed that she knew that I had this video and has never even asked me if she could see what’s said on it. In my heart, I wish this conservator would do her job and not just decide that Nichelle cannot go here and there without knowing the full story, such as sitting down and listening to Nichelle's heart in this video.
So, the only person’s side that I am on is Nichelle’s side. Given this, maybe you will understand why I am sick and tired of staying quiet. Now is time for you to see what Nichelle has to say since she is in jeopardy of NOT being allowed to go to these conventions, see any of you publicly or have the opportunity to say anything at all. You can judge for yourself and maybe you will choose to help Nichelle through this tough time. I know as her friend that she would be genuinely grateful.

Share about your family members or friends that you know who have memory loss, dementia or Alzheimers, who are allowed to still live their lives, still remain in their homes-without being forcibly removed, still work on their little hobbies or big hobbies even. Please express that you would kindly hope that Nichelle Nichols is given the rights that she deserves as a citizen and as a human being, that she is able to live her life out as similar as possible as she states that she wants to on this video.
3. My last hope is to raise awareness about short term memory loss and dementia and specifically in the hope that Nichelle Nichols will be helped and all whom are dealing with the issue of Dementia can still live a decent and manageable life.
Lastly my sincerest of apologies to Her Honor Judge Barbara R. Johnson I am sorry that this is the only way that I could inform you of this video. I was not contacted by the conservator and I was denied my right as a citizen to file a petition to submit this video to the court.

Then when the court case came out against the Talent Manager and what he had allegedly done, I realized that even the approximately $6,200 cash that I had given the Manager for Nichelle’s household over the years was probably never even used for her. Not to mention other items that we believe her manager mis-handled with my husband.
Also, Nichelle Nichols has now been appointed a temporary court-appointed conservator, I thought that was great, but now after a recent Comic-Con convention, I was told that the conservator is now stating Nichelle Nichols still has no money. What? Where is the money? I will not experience Nichelle go through one more time of money being allegedly misappropriated without doing something. I will fight for her rights since she cannot do it herself.
Also, currently the Conservator and the new assistant is stating the Nichelle is tired and should not be attending conventions. Let me tell you, I believe that Nichelle’s greatest joy is her fans. She lives for you! Wants to be see you, wants to be with you, enjoys her time with you, enjoys new fans young and old, not in a fake way either. People are what keeps Nichelle going. And certainly, she is 85 and needs valued time off from time to time but it is still in her heart to live, thrive, live in her home until her last days and enjoy the fandom that she has cared about all of these years. Now I have never even spoken to this conservator, even though I have apparently been on a list for the conservator to call for months now because Nichelle and I are close. I have received neither a phone call or email from this mentioned conservator. When you are appointed a job especially when it involves caring and looking out for another human being’s life, health and finances it is your responsibility to be thorough and competent which I feel she is not, given the fact that I have been informed that she knew that I had this video and has never even asked me if she could see what’s said on it. In my heart, I wish this conservator would do her job and not just decide that Nichelle cannot go here and there without knowing the full story, such as sitting down and listening to Nichelle's heart in this video.
So, the only person’s side that I am on is Nichelle’s side. Given this, maybe you will understand why I am sick and tired of staying quiet. Now is time for you to see what Nichelle has to say since she is in jeopardy of NOT being allowed to go to these conventions, see any of you publicly or have the opportunity to say anything at all. You can judge for yourself and maybe you will choose to help Nichelle through this tough time. I know as her friend that she would be genuinely grateful.

If you support this cause please kindly express your feelings to Judge Barabara Johnson for Nichelle in words, please let the judge know that you would still like to see Nichelle at conventions, take a photo with her or get an autograph or get a hug from Nichelle. Or just simply send your well wishes for Nichelle, I know her fans are out there and I know you will stand up for her, she needs you now. Share about your family members or friends that you know who have memory loss, dementia or Alzheimers, who are allowed to still live their lives, still remain in their homes-without being forcibly removed, still work on their little hobbies or big hobbies even. Please express that you would kindly hope that Nichelle Nichols is given the rights that she deserves as a citizen and as a human being, that she is able to live her life out as similar as possible as she states that she wants to on this video.
3. My last hope is to raise awareness about short term memory loss and dementia and specifically in the hope that Nichelle Nichols will be helped and all whom are dealing with the issue of Dementia can still live a decent and manageable life.
Lastly my sincerest of apologies to Her Honor Judge Barbara R. Johnson I am sorry that this is the only way that I could inform you of this video. I was not contacted by the conservator and I was denied my right as a citizen to file a petition to submit this video to the court.
