Deposit for apartment (help)

My Girlfriend moved from Texas to Los Angeles with me about 2 weeks ago. Prior to her moving we checked out a room to live in for when she gets here. We found a room with a 400 dollar deposit and 600 a month. The owner of the house seemed extremely nice and it was a decent room for us to get on our feet and eventually move out into our own spot. The longest story short. After giving them the deposit to move in we moved all of our stuff into the room, then decided to hang out with them outside to get to know how everyone is. Boy were we not ready. We found out the owner was an alcoholic that was very passive aggressive with me and tried to assert his dominance over me. Found out there was another roommate living at the house that was apparently a meth head. They had a pit bull that was not talked about prior to our move in. The dog ended up biting my wrist and charging at my girlfriend. We found out that there were guns located all over the home. I have an 8 year old daughter as well and i was not about to bring my daughter into this type of situation. One of the roommates said so herself that they would never bring a child to this house. Both of us did not feel safe so we had to move out all our stuff which left us homeless. They refused to give us our deposit back. However a lady on craigslist was able to help us temporary because her place was being put up for sale she mentioned that once she sells it we will have to move out. We found a place that is perfect for us and accepts our applications credit check ect. However they are asking for a deposit that we simple cannot afford at the moment. So we are asking for help for the deposit. It would meant the world to us and my daughter if we were able to get this place.
