Deb's Dream

Donation protected
Deborah Jill Coady, MD, FACOG was quite simply an incredible person! She was a loving wife, mother, doctor, scientist, researcher, teacher, author, activist, environmentalist, and healer. Deb passed away at age 64 on April 4, 2019 after a tireless, nine-year fight against metastatic breast cancer.

She was a champion for women’s health, co-founding the first female-run OB/GYN private practice in SoHo, pioneered treatments for women with complicated pelvic pain conditions, and was a fierce advocate for women’s healthcare access, reproductive freedom, and social justice. Even after everything she did to help her patients throughout her life, she was never satisfied, and fought until the very end to improve the lives of others.

Deb's Dream was that all women could have equal access to high-quality healthcare. She also wished that all humans could have access to mindfulness and mind-body training to promote physical and emotional well-being. She believed change for the greater good begins within oneself, and at the community level. She never wanted monetary hardships to get in the way of health and healing.

In Dr. Coady’s honor, we have set up a scholarship that will raise money for two different causes. The first is the Planned Parenthood Federation of America, the 100+ year-old revolutionary organization that provides women with vital and affordable reproductive health care, education, and advocacy around the US and world. Your contribution will directly serve women in need of healthcare that they may not be able to afford. In addition, the Planned Parenthood Action Fund engages in educational and electoral activity to protect the rights of women. Planned Parenthood has and will continue to be a leader in the reproductive health and rights movement, and is an organization Deb respected and admired throughout her life.

The second cause is the Earth Citizen Organization (ECO), an organization Deb volunteered countless hours with. ECO focuses on providing educational resources, developing learning facilities, and organizing green community initiatives. From book swaps, tree planting, and park clean-ups, to teaching free Tai Chi, Yoga, and meditation classes, ECO fosters a culture of mindful living and sustainability through local events, working from the ground up. Volunteers work with seniors, children, immigrants, individuals with disabilities, and underserved populations to help all achieve health, happiness, and peace. Through Deb’s involvement with ECO, she showed there is no limit to the value that local community initiatives can have in creating harmony and sustainability.

We hope that you will contribute generously to this joint fundraising campaign, and we will keep you updated about how exactly the money will be/is being used. If you adamantly prefer your donation go to one organization over another (rather than being split), please indicate that as a comment on your donation, and we will honor it.

You may feel like a drop in the bucket, but every drop counts! Don’t delay, give today! A little change makes all the difference.

We know Deb’s soul and spirit of giving will live on in all of us, and we hope this campaign can honor her vision for a better world. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your donations to Deb’s Dream!
