My name is Helene Clarkson. I live in Toronto and I started this campaign because it is 2017, the year of Canada 150, and still First Nations children are living without clean water, receiving substandard education, healthcare, social services  and are committing suicide at an unprecedented rate.
The Prime Minister and the Govenment of Canada continue to be in non-compliance with the January 26, 2016 rulings of the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal which called on the gov't to stop discriminating against First Nations children and to give equal funding for education, healthcare and social services. I am raising funds to publish the open letter below to the Prime Minister to urge him to comply with the rulings of the CHRT.  The letter will appear as a full page ad in the Globe and Mail and will run across the country. Unfortunately full page ads are expensive. The goal is $20,000, which is the cost of the ad. All the money raised will be paid to the Globe and Mail.  I ask that you please make a $100 donation in order to sign your name to this letter. But really, what matters most is your signature. So please, if you can't give $100,  give what you can. Please sign on and tell the Prime Minister that you care. It is time to end discrimination against First Nations children.

Prime Minister Trudeau,

As citizens of Canada, we struggle to celebrate 150 years of Confederation while our Government continues to discriminate against 165 000 First Nations children. Despite four rulings by the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal, there has been little to no change in Canada's discriminatory conduct towards its most vulnerable people.

The hypocrisy must end. We cannot credibly continue to promote human rights abroad while Canada violates its own human rights laws and discriminates against children at home.

Because it is 2017, it is time for full equity and fairness federal funding for child welfare, health care, education and ALL public services for First Nations children.  While shortfalls vary, First Nations children often get 25% to 50% less funding for basic public services than other children. Some don't even have clean drinking water let alone a proper education.

Because it is 2017, it is time to stop perpetuating the tragedy of the residential school system and invest in First Nations children by acting on the many reports and recommendations that point the way to a better approach.

Because it is 2017, it is time for you to lead with integrity and end the blatant discrimination against First Nations children that has persisted for far too long.

You recently stated your commitment to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action and to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP). If this commitment is genuine, immediate action and intervention on your part is required.

We are calling on you, as the Prime Minster of Canada, to live up to your good words and personally intervene to ensure the orders of the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal are finally met. The resources of Canada must be put to better use, and it is past time that the walk matched the talk.

Please do the right thing and end government discrimination against First Nations children. Give us something to truly celebrate.

We look forward to your response to our letter.

 Sincerely,

Organizer
