Zaniyan Wellness #NoDAPL

$7,450 of $12,000 goal

Raised by 137 people in 33 months

The focus of this campaign is supporting the work at Zaniyan Wellness, herbal and medical aid station,  at the Rosebud or Sicangu camp at the Standing Rock NoDAPL protest site.   Started by Daphne Singingtree, it has been carried on by numerous dedicated volunteers. Zaniyan is the Lakota word for a state of health or wholeness.

We had initially set up a space at Oceti Sacewin for the tea station, taught classes, provided space for sharing, and to give away donated herbal products.  On the second trip we set up the medic station and an herbal tipi at the Rosebud camp.  Zaniyan Wellness offers a first aid and medical station with nurses, EMTs, NDs, MD, and other professionals working side by side with traditional healers and herbalists.

We worked out of a car canopy for many months until we were able to move into this yurt.

The medic teams at Zaniyan at one point treating over 100 people a day, and far more during protest actions. Working in collaboration with the Medic/Healer Council. The team provided an integrative approach using both herbs and access to conventional medical providers if they were available.

In addition to treatment for illnesses we offered tea, classes, immune support and a place to share knowledge.

The donated herbal tipi was used to provide a place for the herbalists and classes.

Money so far has been used for infrastucture for spaces: canopies, tarps, solar panels, 12 volt system, tables, chairs, stoves, heat, insulation, shelving, organizational bins. We have also bought and transported over 10 wood stoves, stove pipes, and related materials.  Gas, travel expenses, trailer rentals for numerous trips bringing dozens of water protectors to camp. We have been working hard getting supplies to the surrounding communities as well as other protest camps.

We have just been given an evacuation order, and are in immediate need for funds to pay for gas to get donated items out of Rosebud to be redeployed at other protest camps zand distributed to the local communities.

The struggle to protect continues, and only with your support can we succeed.

The big truck is arriving at Standing Rock anytime today, on it is five tipis, three sets of poles, 4 solar panels, four wood stoves, and a thirty foot loads of other needed gear, herbal medicine, paid for by this campaign and many other donors and organizations. Thank you Earthwin, Pacific Domes, and Erika Kightlinger, and many others. I will be packing another uhaul tomorrow with a stove donated by InStoves.org that is a sustainable wood stove with an autoclave for sterilizing medical instruments, two other donated stoves, more herbal medicines, cedar, lavender, and reusable cups. Leaving Sunday morning stopping at Nomadic tipis for another 5 tipis. A donated buffalo hide for the medicine lodge. Will post more pictures tomorrow or Sunday. Thank you everyone for your support, it is humbling to see how everyone has pulled together to support the water.

Are you thinking about coming to Standing Rock? We need people to bear witness and stand in solidarity. Those ready to chop wood & carry water. Those self sufficient in their camp in heavy winds, very cold weather with snow coming. People ready to come to a sovereign nation and respect their traditions and culture. We need people to keep the eyes of the world on us, just be prepared if you come. No alcohol, no drugs, no weapons. This is not a festival. This is one of the poorest reservations in the country, although right now it feels like the richest. The kindness of people, the commitment is humbling. As a someone who inherited land on the Standing Rock reservation this fight is personal. I am humbled by the support, and as this historic gathering of the tribes unite protect the Water & the earth. #waterislife

The people coming to show their support is amazing. Peter Yarrow played last night and I listened from my warm bed in the tipi. One celebrity brought attention to this issue and through social media more people learned, with more celebrities showing support, this helps. we can keep the attention on Standing Rock. Lots of other tribes are fighting environmental battles, this movement starts with stopping the pipeline and will create the Unity to protect sacred lands and water everywhere. #waterislife #nodapl

I have not had a chance to go where there is better Internet service and been incredibly busy. I am hoping to get more pictures soon. Today was amazing at the Indigenous Healers Camp. Beautiful herbal donations coming in. Today all the children at school came in three groups to see us at camp, look at all the herbal products we make, for a story telling, all left with lavender bundles and Kale Sprinkles. Joy. Please see previous posts for address of sending herbal donations to. For Eugene area people or those coming soon here we need reusable travel cups to give away tea in. More salves & glycerin tinctures. LED battery lanterns. I am hoping to leave a lot of infrastructure to keep the camp going!

I didn't mean your supply list Daphne but another one that I saw (Standing Rock or Sacred Stone) I was just hoping that you could tell them to clean that up. People can hurt a good cause by asking for something so person and unrelated to the greater good.
