Danielle's Peruvian community and environmental help expedition:
In July 2018 I am going to Peru for 4 weeks as part of a Camps International Expedition. During my time I will be a volunteer working on community projects to help improve and enhance the standard of living in rural communities. We will be involved in activities such as;
Building or refurbishing school facilities,
Planting lots of trees to reforest the Amazon rainforest,
Digging irrigation channels,
Building seed greenhouses through which children can grow plants to learn about nutrition and families can grow their own vegetables,
Building kitchens and dining rooms in nearby schools,
And building toilets in local homes to improve health and hygiene problems.
In Peru there is a huge disparity between wealth and poverty, rural areas are being left behind the developing cities leading to over 50% of rural communities living below the poverty line. There's a lack of education, and poor vegetable growing conditions contribute to the chronic malnutrition problem in the highlands. The deforestation of the world's largest rainforest, the Amazon, is contributing to global warming.
I feel very privileged to have this opportunity to live within a different culture to our own and to understand the challenges of their day to day living. In order to go I need to raise a total of £4290, approximately one third of this covers my expedition costs with the rest of the money being invested into local communities,wildlife and environmental conservation, and development of infrastructure.
During our time we will stay and work in three different locations in Peru and will also have the opportunity to visit the community living on the floating islands on Lake Titicaca. At the end of our trip we will complete a four to five day trek to Macchu Picchu.
I will be looking to raise money by undertaking fundraising tasks over the next 12 months so I would appreciate any help you could give in getting my funding underway as I need to raise £1000 by end September to reach my next target.
