I need money to retain a private attorney to fight criminal charges that I was arrested for when I went to help a friend escape a situation where his life was in danger!
BACKSTORY
In 2007, I was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance, as a felony, in California. I was eligible for Prop 36 Diversion, so I moved to Lassen County, and signed up for the program here in Lassen County. I successfully completed the Prop 36 Program in 2009, with no violation of probation. The court dismissed the original complaint, which meant that I was now able to state that I had no felonies in my record.
However, what I didn't know at the time, was that by participating in the Prop 36 Program, I had lost my gun rights forever. Although I could legally and correctly claim to have no felonies, I could never, ever have a gun or even one bullet! And this is because of two sentences at the very end of the Prop 36 law, so there is no legal remedy, unless the law itself is changed.
The thing is, the laws have changed. What I received a felony for, and lost my gun rights for life is now a simple misdemeanor. If someone was to be arrested for the very same thing today, they would retain their right to bear arms.
FAST FORWARD TO NOW
On October 12, a friend texted me in distress. He said he had been locked in his trailer and there were people outside threatening his life, threatening to burn his trailer down, with him and his girlfriend in it! he begged me to help, to come let them out and give them a ride out of there. I brought another friend with me, to help. But he insisted on bringing his shotgun.
We drove down the alley, let them out of the trailer and the people who locked them in stood by and watched. I stayed in the car the whole time and didn't say a word to anybody. I never touched the shotgun. I kept my hands on the steering wheel the whole time.
The four of us went back to my house. Within half an hour the cops were at my door. I was arrested and charged with Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, and Felon in Possession of Ammunition. My friend who brought the shotgun was arrested also. The other two people, the ones we helped, hid in my house for five hours, until the cops busted down the door and arrested them too.
LEGAL TROUBLES
Now I am fighting this case. I am being threatened with twelve and a half years in prison! I've never been to prison, and I don't want to. I need to retain a private attorney. I need to have the retainer, and the attorney, before March 07, my next court date. The court seems to have this case on a fast track, not allowing me any time to waste.
I have a portion of the retainer, but I need help with the rest. Every little bit helps, so if you can just donate $5, that's $5 closer to freedom! Every penny of your donation will go to lawyers fees. I'll be eternally grateful for every dollar that is donated. I have a hard time asking for help, but I'm willing to do whatever it takes, legally of course!
