In my defense of the Voting Rights Act, I accrued legal fees and am asking for your financial support.

On November 6th, 2017, as a candidate I helped my elderly, disabled, non-English speaking neighbor to vote. At the poll location, the county did not provide any translator. I translated for her and the election judges for 20 minutes. I did what any good person would do to help a non-English speaking, disabled person exercise their Constitutional right The State charged me with helping her. After a year long legal battle I was found not guilty and the charges were dismissed by Ramsey County Honorable Judge Nicole J. Starr.

From the StarTribune; Ramsey County District Court Nicole Starr issued a decision stating that Thao was not guilty of any of the criminal charges filed against him.

"At every step of the voting process, Defendant was open and transparent about his aid to a non-English speaking voter," Starr wrote. "He encountered several election judges, who actively worked with him to ensure that the non-English speaking voter understood the process and was able to cast her vote."

Thank you so much to all the people who have supported me and their commitment to ensuring all citizens get to exercise their constitutional right to vote. From the Civil Rights Movement to now, this case has made plain that voting barriers still exist. We need to do more to help all of our citizens exercise their constitutional right to vote.
