Dachshund Dad Recovery
Donation protected
Hello family, friends and angels,
James Ferguson, better known as JT, is recovering from an automobile accident that has left him injured and out of work for the past two-and-a-half months. JT is a devoted dad to our 10 mini-dachshunds, most are rescues, some have disabilities.
The accident occurred on November 23rd on the windy stretch of highway 101 in Prunedale. JT was returning home from dropping a family friend off at the San Jose International Airport when it began to rain. As he changed lanes to avoid a speeding car, the back tires lost traction, and the car slid sideways, rolled several times, and landed on the roof. He was transported to Natividad medical center where he underwent emergency surgery that lasted well over four (4) hours.
JT sustained what the doctors refer to as a “degloving” injury. When the car flipped over, the frame of the car at the sunroof collapsed on his head and essentially split and peeled his scalp down, gouging his skull. The emergency team at Natividad did an amazing job of piecing JT’s scalp back together; however, there were some pieces missing. JT was left with a large open wound on the top of his head, exposed skull bone and several hundred stitches and staples.
Since the accident, JT has undergone wound-vac therapy, with dressing changes three times weekly, including two visits a week from a nurse, and weekly visits to the wound care center. He also undergone a second surgery, and will need a final surgery in the coming months. His mobility has been seriously limited, but we expect that to change in the coming weeks. If things work out, JT may return to work sometime after the second week in March. At this time we are asking for your prayers and support.
