Support our Friend Darcia, new mother of twins diagnosed with cancer.
This page has been started for our dear friend Darcia. Darcia is an amazing friend who was always willing to go out of her way to help others, now it's our turn to help her.
Darcia has wanted nothing more than to be a mother. After a long journey and many struggles, Darcia and her husband, Matt, welcomed two beautiful babies into this world on August 3rd, 2015. Hudson and Robin were a blessing, a dream come true and they couldn't have been happier! They were well aware of the struggles that lay ahead with raising twins, but they were ready for the challenge and had family support. Darcia’s dream of becoming a mother had become a reality.
After Hudson and Robin were born Darcia was eager to get home and embrace life as a mother, unfortunately that didn't happen. Darcia experienced many health problems following the birth of Hudson and Robin, and she was hospitalized on several occasions. Darcia endured several surgeries, the doctors struggling to understand what was happening. In September, six weeks after one of the happiest days of her life, Darcia was diagnosed with choriocarcinoma- a cancerous tumour in her uterus. To make things even worse the cancer had already spread to her lungs.
After that it was like a dark cloud came over them. Darcia was hospitalized to start her cancer treatment and Matt had to take a leave from work to take care of his wife and newborn babies. They should be enjoying time at home adjusting to be being a new family of four not dealing with this nightmare.
Words cannot describe how hard this has been on Darcia, Matt, and their families. With the hospital nearly an hour away from their home, much time was spent driving back and forth. Every effort was made to bring Hudson and Robin to the hospital to be with their mother as much as possible so they could have that special time to bond. Their families made many sacrifices to help them as much as they could.
The amazing doctors that are taking care of Darcia gave her a positive prognosis, but the road there is going to be long and hard. Chemotherapy started right away in September. Darcia was eventually able to return home, but has to return for inpatient and outpatient treatments weekly. This means that she still needs to go back and spend some nights in the hospital for chemotherapy during each of her treatment cycles.
Darcia and Matt were prepared for the cost of raising twins, what they didn't anticipate was how much extra they would have to pay for Darcia's treatment. Not all of Darcia's medications are covered, and they have high deductibles to meet before they get assistance with the other medications. On top of that the travel costs to all of Darcia's appointments have really added up.
Darcia’s doctors had originally anticipated that her cancer treatment would have been complete by Christmas, but Darcia is still undergoing round after round of chemotherapy. This cancer has not been responding to treatment as anticipated. The doctors now predict that the chemotherapy will likely continue well into Spring. It feels like there is no end in sight. Even when the chemotherapy is over it will be a long time before Darcia recovers and feels healthy again.
Please help us reach out and support this amazing woman, wife, mother and her family. Unfortunately we cannot all lighten the emotional and physical stress that Dacria and Matt are experiencing, but we can help lighten the financial strain.
Funds raised will go to the cost of Darcia’s cancer treatment, help them provide for their beautiful babies and pay their bills.
Your thoughts and prayers would also be greatly appreciated. Please reach out and let Darcia and Matt know that you are thinking about them.
