Service Trip to Kenya

Donation protected
My name is Hannah Moore, I am currently a grade 11 student at Digby Regional High School. Next March 20 students from Nova Scotia are chosen to travel to Kenya, Africa to help build a school. My goal is to raise 5000$ to be able to go on this trip to Kenya next March as a part of me to we. I would like to give back to a community in need and to be able to help people that are less fortunate than I am and I want to see the change and difference that I and others can make in their lives. I am really lucky to have had so many different opportunities while living in my town. I am lucky enough to have free education, extracurricular activities and access to clean water, which is something we often take for granted. That is why this would be an amazing opportunity for me to improve my awareness of global issues face-to-face, work on a large scale project with other motivated individuals within my school and school board.

To be able to first-hand contribute to improving someone else’s quality of life through the power of education is an unbelievable thought. Even the experience of helping fundraise to do so is an empowering concept, as I have been participating in each April at my school through Hungry for Education. Every year for the past nine years I have volunteered at Tim Hortons camp day fundraising to send children from a low income family to camp for an experience of their life, it is so nice to know that the small amount of time taken out of my day to raise money gives them a week to have an amazing and fun time. I have realized in the past 5 years of me coaching gymnastics and from watching someone that has been in China teaching for the past couple of years that I want to become a teacher possibly go abroad to do so because it is something I love doing and if I was able to go on this trip it would give me a small taste of that is actually like.

I have traveled to Cuba each year for the past four years and one of the most amazing things is when we go into the town and meet new people whether they are from Cuba or they are from another country, we always bring necessities like toothbrushes, toothpaste, clothes we don’t wear, etc, for the locals, it is such an amazing feeling seeing how happy they get over the smallest things we can give. It is also amazing to learn their culture, way of living, their language, what they eat, how they learn, it is a learning experience for everyone and that is the amazing part because it gives you a whole new perspective on life and you learn that even the smallest things you are doing is making a huge impact in somebody else's life. Bother and during this trip I will work hard to raise the funds needed and I will also work hard to include everyone. I will work hard to meet new people and grow à stronger bond with the others who are chosen that I already know. I will also work in rain or shine to get the job done.
