HELP!

Long after the cheers of the crowd are gone, the fighter who entertained the fans is left alone, it is time to show Cyborg Santos the fans of MMA are still here!

A veteran of over 50 fights, Cyborg made his return to London England for Bellator MMA when he faced a young up and coming 10-0 talent from the UK.

Cyborg suffered a knee strike to the head which has caused a compound fracture to the front of his skull.

Currently Cyborg is still in the hospital in the UK, and has not undergone surgery.  He is unable to fly, and it is not known when this status will change.

We are asking for support to help Cyborg Santos through this difficult time.  The total medical costs associated with the injury are not yet known. Cyborg will be unable to work for sometime, and we are hoping to offer some assistance to him and his family during this difficult time.

Originally from Rondonopolis, Mato Grosso Brazil, Cyborg had his first professional fight in 1997 and is a veteran of elite fight promotions such as; Cage Rage, PRIDE FC, Sengoku, Strikeforce, and Bellator.

Thank you for everyone who has helped with the Go Fund Me. Cyborg has had surgery, and the funds from this Go Fund Me will help him during this important period of recovery. God Bless everyone for their kindness, this is a great example of how the community of martial artists and fans came together to support someone in need!

Bellator MMA President Scott Coker says he will cover all of Cyborg's medical expenses related to the injury in the cage, and they will be rewarding him with a bonus on his salary to help him get through this difficult time.

Thank you to all the fans who have helped with donations, this is just the beginning of the story for Cyborg as he will be returning to the states in the next few days for surgery, and will be unable to work or provide for his family for sometime.

It is truly amazing to see the love and admiration from the martial arts community, I appreciate seeing the support the fans have shown my ex husband, as he deserves the help during this time.

Hello Everyone My understanding is Bellator is paying for the initial medical costs. This is more to help him with future costs (this is not going to be over once he is surgically repaired), and he will have no income for a long period of time. I get all the hate for many GoFundMe projects (pay for my 5 star wedding, pay for my boobs, pay my rent so I can have a bigger house, etc)/ However, this is the kind of thing that is why GoFundMe was created. It allows people, who WANT TO, to send some money to a person and help them when they can not help themselves. Nobody is compelled to donate. I am an MMA fan, and I spend money every month on PPV's with the UFC and so I think it is very compelling for me to help this guy out because there is a serious human cost for them to entertain us. Fighters outside of that top of the card draw, do not make much money. You may think a 50 thousand dollar purse sounds great, but after training costs and taxes and you may only fight 2 or 3 times a year you end up making less than the average income in America. This man is not a big star and does not fight in high profile fights (he is way past his prime years), so he is not rolling in cash. So, as an MMA fan, I feel this is something I am compelled to be part of. Thank you

I'm a true MMA fan and wish him a full recovery... but seriously? A GoFundMe page? You willingly partake in a violent sport and GET PAID to do so. You don't have insurance or a contract that covers medical expenses as a result? I think it's ludicrous that you would ask for donations when the world if full of people in need who lacks the means or resources you have. Disgraceful. Let Bellator or your team of coaches and agents foot the bill, or better yet. Pay for it yourself. If you can't, retire.

Fuck you MMA. You cover it. I am not busting on this guy. I only briefly watch highlights of the fights. But if injuries like this are possible in the ring, then they need to cover it. This is an absolutely unbelievable injury to suffer in a fight, and if there is that much risk the whole sport should be banned....

@ Justin King—Bellator will cover his medical bills, but he'll be out of work during what will likely be a long recovery. And no, a fighter like this does not make millions. They are lucky to get by.

Paul Melo if you're reading this, you're a colossal cunt. If you don't want to donate then fuck off instead of injecting your Ilk onto a page where people are trying to be generous for someone in need. Not all MMA fighters have health insurance or receive adequate incomes to cover expenses. Have some respect, someone from his family might be reading this page. But you're too much of a cunt to even consider it.

This is the least we can do for a man that's put on some the greatest fights in the history of MMA. That's no exaggeration. Evangelista's fight with Melvin Manhoef is the single greatest fight that's ever happened... anywhere! If you've ever stood up with goosebumps during a Cyborg fight (haven't we all, honestly) throw him a little change to pay it back. Best wishes, brother. Thank you for the fights over the years. We all love you Cyborg!

Wow such character shown by some people below using this extremely rare injury to be critical of the man while he's down, and the sport of MMA. Funny, you don't hear people talk about banning the NFL or NASCAR when people are killed in horrific accidents. Heal fast Cyborg! True legend of the sport. #BrazilianJiuJitsu

I was at that fight, and the sound of the knee hitting his head was sickening. Lots of people on here commenting that we shouldn't be donating because he knew what he was getting himself into is even more sickening. This is the worst injury I've ever seen from a fight, and is way outside what could be reasonably expecting. It was a freak occurrence, and it's gonna be a long time, if ever, before this Warrior can fight again. Sure, Belabor is covering his medical bills, but that's only gonna be a fraction ion eat this will ultimately cost a great warrior who has put on tons of thrilling fights for us fans.

Reading some dumb ass comments below...Bellator does not have to cover a dime, they are covering some AND giving him a bonus out of being humane. Fighters are self employed contracted fighters, they are responsible for their own bills just like and pro athlete. This is why athletes have health insurance. You CAN purchase insurance as a self employed individual. They risk their health up to even death. This fund account will help him just a small bit, I doubt he will be back. He will eventually need a metal plate over his forehead to protect the skull.
