Final brick effort at our preschool

In 2007, our preschool was days away from closure and rebounded. 2008 brought new struggles with the impact of the Cedar Falls, IA flood. 

In 6 short years, we've rebuilt our facility with a green and sustainable focus - and our future looks bright again.  

So far, through grants, donations and the help of volunteers, our mission to create an energy-efficient, sustainable facility for our children is near completion!

We're in the final stretch - to complete the exterior renovations and save 50% on our heating bill! 


Our history, and a note from Director Linda Jacoby

Cedar Valley Preschool & Child Care Center is a 45 year old licensed, non-profit preschool and child care program.  The Center was started by two VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) workers in 1970 and has provided quality child care services for the past 45 years.  It is located in the North Cedar area of Cedar Falls directly across from North Cedar Elementary School.  It is, and always has been, the only center in the area. It serves children ages 18 months to 11 years of all cultures, socio-economic backgrounds, and ability levels.

 Our mission is to provide a structured curriculum of developmentally appropriate activities, which aim at the positive growth and development of each individual child socially, emotionally, physically, and intellectually.  The Center also is a community resource for families sharing information regarding the food bank, counseling, budgeting, dental care, family activities, parenting, and more.      

Cedar Valley Preschool and Child Care Center’s building renovations began in February 2010 with a community “Think Tank” creating the focus of being: “green,” energy efficient, and sustainable.  In the past five years we have extensively renovated (replaced the roof, installed energy efficient lighting and appliances, added insulation, replaced worn flooring, replaced the fire safety system, removed asbestos, and more through grants and donations.  Due to the changes made since 2010, our energy bill has been reduced by $230. per month!  Also, as we approach this “final brick” in our plan, it is evaluated that there will be a savings of 50% on the monthly heating bill!!! It has been a labor of love as the center has been nurturing, nourishing, and providing early educational experiences for nearly  4,000 children since 1970. 

 Volunteerism is strong, community collaborations increasing, and staff consistency high.  Our Board, staff, and families continue to work as a team to strive for the brightest futures for our children!  Your generosity can be a catalyst for change for our program and the children served.  Many thanks for your support, kindness, and generosity!
