Cut Bank Hawkwatch 2019

Tax deductible

Thanks to our many donors and supporters, the Cut Bank Hawkwatch was officially counted last year - and we're going for it again for Fall 2019!

Last year, from 15 September 2018 through 12 November 2018, the flight was counted for an average of 5.8 hours per day. During our focus month of October, 186.42 hours were observed overall, at 6.4 hours per day on average. Our counter, Silvan Laan, tallied up 989 migrant raptors , including the count's first GYRFALCON.

Last year's funding for the CBHW primarily supported hiring and housing a full-time counter. Major donors and logistical supporters were Hawkwatch International, HMANA, Upper Missouri Breaks Audubon  Society, and the Glacier County Conservation District - AND ALL OF YOU !

Once again, Kate Atkins and Tom Magarian, Co-Directors of the CBHW, are joining forces with HawkWatch International as a logistical partner to count the Fall 2019 flight at the Cut Bank Coulee. In 2018, we pulled together a solid first season with about $5000. We'd very much like to do more, and at the launch of this campaign, we're at zero dollars. All donations from this campaign will go directly to Hawkwatch International,  earmarked for the CBHW.

Our primary expenses are rent (generally about $650/month with all utilities), security deposit, per diem for the counter, and a bit of miscellaneous gear. The more we pull together, the longer the season, and the more we can do in general.

GoFundMe does skim some off the top (2.9%). Some supporters choose to instead make donations directly to Hawkwatch International (via the web site, SPECIFYING CBHW, or via check ALSO SPECIFYING CBHW in the memo!), so if you choose to donate via those mechanisms, please go right ahead. We'll post updates to facebook, the web site, and here as funds flow in from all our various sources.

Our goals this year are not only simply executing the count, but also involving the Cut Bank community more meaningfully in the project.  Stay tuned for more news on that front as plans develop.

Kate and Tom remain committed to this project for the long-haul, and are grateful for any assistance you can offer!

Thank you!
