As per request of the Riverfront Recapture, we will continue to raise funds, but for next year's (2017) celebration. There are major details that require a significant amount of resources and time that do not fit within the time frame we hoped to raise the appropriate funds. Please do continue to consider donating to this campaign so we can have a spectacular show in 2017!

I am creating this GoFundMe page because I was a patient awaiting a heart transplant at Hartford Hospital last year. I was looking forward to seeing the fireworks show from the windows in the lounge area overlooking the Connecticut River. Unfortunately, beucause of my condition, I was unable to travel the 100 feet to see the show and missed what could have been my last Fourth of July Celebration.
I am still here today and not only would I like to see the show, but my thoughts, passion and motivation for doing this comes from knowing that there are patients at Hartford Hospital who were looking forward to seeing the fireworks from a window or even a televison and now they have learned that the show will not go on.
If we are unable to raise the funds for the show this year, all of the funds will still go to the Riverfront Recapture INC. But we all have seen miracles big and small....
Riverfest 2016 has been cancelled organizers announced Monday, June 27, less than 2 weeks before the event.
The East Hartford / Hartford annual celebration was set to run from 4 to 10 p.m. on Saturday, July 9, with a fireworks show at 9 p.m.
It was set for the Mortensen Riverfront Plaza in Hartford and Great River Park in East Hartford, but both the event and the fireworks show is cancelled.
Budget issues are to blame for the cancellation. Specifically, an announcement from Riverfront Recapture said the cities couldn't afford the $100,000 associated police and fire department services, or the $20,000 needed for State Police, a cost that was covered by the state budget in the past. -FOX61
