Hello! My name is Crystalann Rodriguez and I currently am a researcher in a Neurophysiology & Genetic Research Lab at SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY. I have hopes of applying to medical school in the near future, with aspirations of becoming a neurosurgeon or neurologist, and I am looking to gain more experience in the medical field. Volunteering and shadowing at NYU Hospital these past 6 months has only further reinforced my desire to directly help others in need.
I have the opportunity to participate in a two week pre-medical internship in Iringa, Tanzania this upcoming July with a non-profit company called Gap Medics. During these two weeks not only will I get a more hands-on physician shadowing experience in a local community hospital, but I also will be able to give assistance to medical personal who greatly need a helping hand. In addition, I will be able to gain a different perspective on the workings of healthcare systems in developing nations.
It would be greatly appreciated if friends, family, loved ones, and anyone else who has continuously supported my endeavors help me reach my goal of participating in this Tanzania medical mission trip, and to help those in need. Although I work I plan to attend Hunter College's Pre-Med Post Bacc Program this upcoming Fall 2016 to complete my medical school requirements which I personally will have to finance. I am asking for donations (no amount too small) to cover the cost of the 2- week program: $1990 (Includes food, accommodation, personal mentor, donation to the people of Iringa), round trip flight: $1550 (based on flight prices viewed today), and Visa, work permits, & additional necessary travel expenses: $500. A $450 deposit needs to be sent as soon as possible to secure my spot in the internship program. I will be very grateful for any assistance offered.
