Crown Heights Sidewalk Garden
We're building a sidewalk garden on Franklin Avenue between St John's and Sterling!
Funds will go to not only lush plantings but also a modified green roof system that will help protect the soil from any lead contamination. This consists of 2x12s, waterproof membranes, gravel, and soils. We're looking to purchase the material within the next week or two to prepare for planting season!
Our planting concept is in the same vein as Piet Oudolf: diversity and intermingling of plants and herbs that vary in color, structure and blooming season. We've compiled the list below based on NYC's recommended plantings for public tree beds.
We hope you can take part in beatifying our community with us, one tree bed at a time.
UPDATE! We constructed the bed! All we need is some plants!
