Hey there. My name is Michelle Hope you might know me as @MHSexpert... I’m a sexologist, sex educator and activist.  I recently started working with Friends of Island Academy to provide my Sex Love and Relationship classes to incarcerated youth here in NYC. I love teaching people about sexuality and have provided my bio below to give you detailed info about my passions.  This morning I went to a meeting in which I was informed that Friends of the island would be ending their programs due to lack of funding.  I am committed to the work regardless of payment as I believe sexuality education is a human right.  I’ve set up this go fund me to see if y’all might be inclined to help raise money to support the amazing work Friends of Island Academy does.  My program is only a small fraction of the amazing work and support they provide for young people re-entering society.  If you got $5, $10 maybe even $20 on it.... throw that change money goes directly to the org not me....  I just wanted to use the favor I have to bless the next person.  Below I’ve provided info on Friends of the Island and myself.

Friends of Island Academy was founded in 1990 to anchor and develop capacity among adolescents newly released from jail in New York City. The concept for Friends developed in the late 1980's at the alternative high school located on Rikers Island (known then as Island Academy). The organization was rooted in collaboration between New York City Department of Education staff on Rikers, social service staff and community advocates who wanted to address the recidivism rates, untapped potential and disproportionate minority representation among thousands of adolescents who attended high school on Rikers Island each year.

Michelle Hope is a dedicated Sexologist, educator and activist with a Master’s degree in Human Development and extensive post graduate training in sexuality.  As a veteran speaker, Michelle has over 15 years of experience delivering impactful informative lectures and trainings across the nation. She believes as though her work, in marginalized urban communities, has provided her with deep insight and comprehension of the holistic implications of sexuality on one’s life.

Michelle has dedicated her career to understanding and communicating to the masses the complex intersections of various social identities: race, class, gender, and sexual orientation, through a Reproductive Justice lens.  She has taken deliberate actions in exploring and developing a unique language to speak to communities of color. Michelle feels as though her experience in working with marginalized urban communities, and understanding holistic sexuality, has shaped her perspectives on the direct connections between sexuality and generational poverty in those communities. Her passion and commitment to the work has provided her with a unique style that has the ability to captivate and educate across various populations; with a proven track record of developing, implementing and evaluating dynamic and creative programming for individuals.
Want to join me in making a difference? I'm raising money to benefit Friends of Island Academy, Inc. (Friends / FOIA), and any donation will help make an impact. Thanks in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to me.
