Christmas Party and Family Fun Day for Children in Direct Provision
Parents and guardians living in direct provision have no resources. They receive an allowance of €29.80 for children and €38.80 for adults per week. While the government now claim that there is a ‘right to work’, it is so conditionalised as to make it extremely difficult for any qualifying asylum-seeker to access any workplace. And many don’t qualify to this ‘right to work’.
As well as this, the centres are isolated from local communities, making it difficult for the residents to integrate with the surrounding community.
Your donation will help them to celebrate this holiday period and to be a part of a community event, fostering social inclusion, integration, and equality.
The Christmas Party event has been successfully organised by the staff and students of UCC and their friends over the past number of years, working with the community and families within Direct Provision centres in Cork City and County. We really do ask for your support to continue providing these opportunities and are incredibly grateful to all who do.
With the money that is raised, each of the 400+ child will receive a good present on the day. We also offer food and drink, entertainers, crafts etc., and cover the costs of transportation to and from the centres. All proceeds go towards the running cost of this event. I will be responsible for managing money and arrangements on the day.
We completely understand if people are not in a position to donate. For those who can, a little contribution will have a real impact on these children’s lives and we thank you in advance for your generosity.
