Conor's volunteering with Project Trust

Donation protected
Hi! I'm Conor, 18 years old and recently graduated from Rainford Sixth Form with the results A*A*A. I have key interests in photography and maths, and I constantly like to challenge myself with new possibilities. After being in school for an extensive amount of time, I've decided that I'd like to have a year before entering university where I complete voluntary work and help a community abroad. I particularly want to do teaching as this is a career path I wish to pursue in the future, and by conducting work of this nature - I can gain valuable experience in this field through a unique medium. By going abroad instead of simply residing in the UK, I can greatly challenge myself as I have experience teaching students in the UK, but it will be completely different when I have to bridge the gap of languages. I've been interested in Asian culture for a long time (initially starting with Japan and Korea) however, I think that each country has their own unique features, and I plan to completely invest myself into this opportunity to discover any new culture and what it practices.

To achieve this, I've been selected to work with the charity Project Trust, who specialise in taking school leavers overseas (working in over 20 countries) and integrating them into a new community for 12 or 8 months. Their aim is to provide volunteers with an educational experience through living and working with people in communities very different from those at home. Thus far I've partaken in a 4-day selection course on the Isle of Coll, Scotland, where I met a group of like-minded teenagers, and I was evaluated against criteria for my synergy with the projects available. This led to me being an eligible volunteer, and once my fundraising is complete I will have further contact with Project Trust through means like training courses and briefings prior to my departure. Whilst abroad I am also given endless support so that I can positively influence and integrate myself into a new culture in a safe and meaningful way - whilst also gaining a qualification in international volunteering. If you wish to explore Project Trust and their work further, here's a link to their website: https://projecttrust.org.uk/

To conclude, I'm asking for financial support with this project as I need assistance in covering upfront costs such as flights, insurance, monthly allowances, etc... By donating to this cause, you will not only be greatly benefitting an underdeveloped community; but also myself as I'll be gaining great life experience and skills whilst abroad. This fundraising would normally need to be completed by the end of July, but due to special circumstances, I could be eligible for extensions. Regardless, any donations to this cause will be greatly appreciated, and I will arrange ways to thank people at a later point. No donation is too small for this cause, and I will keep all donors updated with monthly posts relating to my progress, any events which I'll be hosting, as well as updates whilst abroad.  Thanks for reading this post and if there are any other ways you wish to help (be that with venues, sponsorships, trusts or item donations), simply send me an email at [email redacted] or send me a text on 07518049916. I am also available for opportunities such as presentations or discussions with interested groups (eg Rotary or Round Table groups) both before and after going abroad - simply send me an email so we can discuss. Many thanks, Conor
