Community Vigil - Stand with our Muslim neighbors

Donation protected
Dear Neighbors:

I am Devesh Pathak, LHS Junior and one of the leaders of Lexington says #Enough .

In the wake of the Christchurch Mosque mass shooting, Lexington residents will stand in solidarity with our Muslim neighbors and friends.

Here is the link to Facebook event.

We have about 90 Muslim families in Lexington. This horrific event has shaken them and our entire community.  The violence expressed crosses religious intolerance, white supremacy, and gun violence. It is important that we come together as a community to support one another, both as people grieve and also struggle to learn what constructive actions we can each take.

We have the opportunity to do something constructive locally by partnering with other community groups, including Lexington Interfaith Clergy Association, LexPride, the Association of Black Citizens of Lexington, the Chinese American Association of Lexington, the Koreans of Lexington, the Indian Americans of Lexington, the Arlington Human Rights Commission and others to create a space for the entire community to grieve the loss of 51 innocent lives in New Zealand, to show support for our Muslim neighbors and friends, and also to express our views about the worldwide need to end gun violence.

After the vigil, we plan to host an informal "Chai, Samosas and Conversations" at First Parish Church. This will give us the time to meet our neighbors and connect in a meaningful way.

This fundraiser is to help with the event costs that we are anticipating.

- Samosa, Refreshments, Chai, Cookies, Pizza

- Paper plates, Cups, Napkins, Forks, and Knives

- Police Detail (If we get permission to use the Green, we will need to pay for police detail)

- Candles

- Copying services for program and posters

- Name tags for volunteers and participants

Funds sought: $400.00 (refreshments & materials) to $1,500.00 (if town assesses fees)

Based on the June rally, the Police detail was $800.00 and the Department of Public Works expense was $300.00.

Any remaining funds will be divided equally between LexRAP (to support refugees); Lexington Says Enough’s Living Room Conversations project, and Cary Library to support the continuation of their Anti-Bias workshop series.

Thank you.
