Community Roots Farm is expanding and transforming!
We are located in Oceanside CA and are a volunteer run farm with one employee. We supply sustainably grown vegetables to four pre-schools as part of the Growing Minds Early Education Program.

We are expanding upon the Growing Minds Program by creating our own non-profit which will still supply the pre-schools, but also bring fresh, locally grown produce to the surrounding low income neighborhood through the creation of an onsite farm stand. This will benefit the neighborhood and generate income for the farm, making us more sustainable in the long term.
We strive to improve people's lives by connecting plants, people and community. One way we do this is by opening the farm to those interested in growing food sustainably, productively and profitably in a small farm setting. Individuals can be become involved as volunteers, join an internship program, or enroll in MiraCosta College’s
Sustainable Agriculture program where they use the farm as their hands-on learning-site.
Spring will soon be here and planting season will be upon us. The beds are weeded and prepped and soon we will be blessed with an abundance of vegetables and fruits which will need a cool place to chill before they become a healthy meal for the local community. There's nothing sadder than the hot summer sun destroying hours and hours of hard work by wilting all the lettuce and leaving the zucchini soft and limp.
We need refrigeration! The installation of a CoolBot walk-in cooler will keep the produce fresh and healthy. Coolbots are an energy efficient refrigeration method using an insulated room, coolbot controller and an airconditoner. If you donate, your money will go towards the coolbot, as well as a cement slab needed to support the unit which includes upgrades to the post harvest area bringing it up to commercial food handling standards.
We aim to offer botanical workshops, composting classes, picnics and fun community gatherings in the near future to further strengthen our vision of improving people's lives through the appreciation and understanding of plants and nature.
