Community Beekeeping

Donation protected
Hi!  I'm a beekeeper in Albuquerque, New Mexico, attempting to share my newfound love of beekeeping with others while making our planet better.  Last year, I decided to take a beekeeping certification course through New Mexico Beekeepers Association, which I highly recommend.

Starting this spring, I'd like to provide the men of Dismas House with an opportunity to keep bees.  Dismas House is a transitional living program for adults reentering society from prison and jail.  It's one of many programs at HopeWorks, a nonprofit committed to supporting people who are homeless and near homeless, where I work as a behavioral health therapist.  In addition to adjusting to life outside of prison and jail, the men of Dismas House are learning to cope with mental health issues, such as Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and working to recover from alcohol and drug addiction.  Beekeeping is a great hobby and means of self-care and can help build social and practical skills to develop stability and confidence, reducing participants' risk of recidivism (i.e., returning to prison or jail).

Donating to this campaign would kick-start my long-term community beekeeping, along with Dismas House's beekeeping program.

Please feel free to contact me for more information and "bee" sure to check out my Instagram, @rachelbbeekeeping, to learn more and to stay tuned for this year's journey!

Thank you so much for your interest/investment in my campaign!

Most sincerely,

Rachel B (and the bees)
