Code-signing certificate for a freeware developer

Hi. I'm Bart and I'm developing free-to-use software.

For example, this Microsoft Flight Simulator plugin: https://flightsim.to/file/43086/little-navmap-vr-panel that allows people to access some vital information when flying a plane in VR.

With every update I make I have a problem that any executable file I'm producing may get flagged by anti-virus on user's computer. While this is understandable when a file is new and not widely spread the likelihood of false-positives is high, but this is frustrating and can scare people off.

The only sensible way of dealing with this is to sign the executable with a certificate that will tie the executable to verified my personal details. It will make me not an anonymous developer, in turn this should raise the trust of anti-virus vendors towards my creations and build reputation based on certificate, not specific exe file that I've released.

Problem is that obtaining this certificate is relatively expensive and these are impossible to get for free. For example, using a comparison website https://signmycode.com, cheapest one is $399.98/yr with hardware token I need for the first time I get a certificate. It's not something a freeware dev can cover on top of contributing own free time for developing things, especially that this only benefits users.

Whole donation amount goes towards the certificate. If I find it cheaper then I'll get it for longer period. If I'm left with any money after that I'll re-donate it here. Thanks for your consideration.
