 HICKSVILLE, NY
It is with a very heavy heart that I am typing these words. One of our very own Hicksville families is in dire need of help. Alex Wallace, son of Mike & Michelle, brother to Josh, was just diagnosed with Leukemia. How does something like this happen? How can this be real? It's every parent's worst nightmare........ everyone's worst fear realized.
For those of you who know the Wallace family, the old saying "to know them, is to love them" is an understatement. The warmth, love and caring that this family puts forth is immeasurable. Mike is the Vice President of the Hicksville Soccer Club. Both Alex and Josh are players. Michelle is an outstanding employee at Hofstra University. The Wallaces are very active in the Hicksville community. They are extremely supportive and dedicated to all of their friends and family. To those of you who don't know them, I can only say that they are one of the finest, most caring and strongest families I have the privilege of knowing and I have the honor of calling my friends.
We, as a community, ask for your help and prayers for Alex and his family during this very difficult battle with Leukemia. Please donate to help support their fight. Thank you!

Long Overdue Update (from Michelle):
Alex is doing well. He finished Delayed Intensification treatment officially and as of Monday March 20, He will start Maintenance. He will finally be able to start the long road to getting stronger and reconstructing his face. We have an appointment on March 29th with the Surgeon at Mount Sinai to talk about and schedule reconstruction. We don't know what is really involved yet with reconstruction but we are anxious to get started. I promise I will update more often than I have been. Thank you for your support and generosity. It has made this journey a bit easier knowing you are all praying and supporting Alex.

5/6/2016 Thank you so much to everyone for your continued support! Alex was doing really well. A few weeks ago they began phase 2 of the chemo which is very aggressive. He had a minor set back and wound up back at Winthrop with a fever and severe pain in his jaw and throat due to chemo. His blood counts went back down to nothing so they put him back on Antifungals and Antibiotics. His numbers have started trending up again so they took him off most of the meds but we are trying to get him to eat now. If he doesn't start eating they will have to put in a feeding tube. His mood is very poor. The pain really brought him down. We are pushing him to keep moving forward. There is light at the end of the tunnel!
We want to thank everyone for your continues love and support. NO ONE FIGHTS ALONE!!!

Thank you to all who continue to show your support! The Wallace family is so very grateful.
Please, Alex needs lots of prayers and positive thoughts!! Most of you know that he was transferred to Mt. Sinai Hospital because the sinus infection had spread down to the bone. He remains in PICU there where he is under close observation. He had a third surgery to flush out the sinus cavities.
There is a blood drive in his honor on January 20th from 3:45 pm to 8:15 pm at the Lee Avenue Elementary School. Please come down if you can to show your support.
Thank you again and God Bless!
