Sheltering those in need in Suffolk

October… This month we’d like to raise money for victim’s of Domestic Violence. Studies show that in the US each year, nearly three million children are exposed to and become victims of domestic violence. In addition, 25 percent of women in our country will become victims to domestic violence some time in their lives. Recently the news has made the appearance that this problem only happens to the stars of our society, but domestic violence happens everywhere, everyday.
One of these groups is known as the Suffolk County Coalition Against Domestic Violence… or SCCADV for short. They are a non-profit organization dedicated to work toward the prevention of domestic violence by providing a wide range of services to help and empower victims of domestic violence. Established 36 years ago, SCCADV started a chain of “safe homes” for domestic violence victims to retreat to. The “safe homes” were homes opened to victims from volunteers in the community, but in 1983 SCCADV built their Safe Harbor Shelter. The Safe Harbor Shelter was originally intended to provide safety and shelter to victims of domestic abuse, but as funding to SCCADV decreased and the building aged, that intention to provide safety and shelter began to be compromised.
Today the Safe Harbor Shelter is in desperate need for repairs and improvements in order to realize and maintain its cause. It is in this spirit that the Freund Insurance Agency feels compelled to help this worthy cause. We ask you to join us in helping by making a small donation. Every penny counts in the fight against domestic violence.
