Fund Irish Rowers to Europeans

Donation protected
Hi, we’re Claire Lambe and Denise Walsh. We are part of the Rowing Ireland High Performance team and are currently selected as the Rowing Ireland Lightweight Women’s double for Piediluco international regatta in April and the European Championships in Poland in May. Our ultimate aim is to be selected for and then qualify for the Olympic Games in Rio in 2016. We would be making history as Ireland’s first female lightweight rowers at an Olympic Games.

In the lead up to the European Championships in May, we hope to compete at one international regatta, Piediluco International Regatta, Italy in April and to attend a training camp after. This competition will give us a good marker of where we are after all our hard training through the winter and the last few years. Piediluco International Regatta will be our first regatta this year and will be a good preparation regatta before the Europeans. We are required to pay levies to compete for Ireland at Piediluco Regatta and at the European Championships. We also need to fund the training camp between both competitions. This is a considerable burden for both of us as we are currently self-funded, training full time and relying on the support of family to fund us as we endeavour to reach our goal.

We would massively appreciate any support to aid us to cover some of these costs to compete internationally. Rowing is our passion and we want to represent Ireland at the highest level, ultimately at the Olympic Games. We have both given up a lot to train full time and to really go after our dream and now we need a little help on our journey. Currently our total costs up to Europeans are €3400 for the training camp and competitions. Any contribution towards these costs would be an immense help.

Please don’t hesitate to get in contact with us on facebook, twitter or through email. Let us know if you would like to be included on a monthly email update of our progress. We would love for you to share in our journey.

Here is a little info about us:

Claire Lambe.
I’m 24 years old. I took up rowing at the age of 15 at my local club, Commercial Rowing Club, Dublin. I really enjoyed the training and traveling around the country for competitions. I got my first taste for international rowing when I won a silver medal at the Coupe de la Jeunesse at the age of 17. When I went to university at UCD to study Mechanical Engineering I joined UCD Ladies Boat Club. In my second year in college I made the decision I would do everything I could to reach my full potential in rowing. Through college I trained twice a day around a full day of lectures and labs. Since completing my degree, I have moved to Cork to train full time at the National Rowing Centre. I have committed myself fully to achieving my goal of competing at the Olympic Games in Rio. My achievements to date are; a silver medal at the World University Championships, 4th place at the Under23 World Championships 2012 and 4th place at the European Championships 2013. I have won the Women’s Senior Scull National Championship in 2013 and 2014. I have been selected to compete in the top lightweight boat for Ireland for the last 6years.

Denise Walsh.
I’m from Skibbereen, Co. Cork. I am 22 years old. I began rowing at the age of 13 at the local rowing club, Skibbereen Rowing Club. At Skibbereen RC, rowing became a massive part of my life. The club was a great place to meet up with your friends and training was just a fun way to spend our time. The club had a very competitive atmosphere and instilled a really good training mentality in me from a young age. So far with Skibbereen RC, I have won 12 National Championships. I went to college in UCC and have completed an honours degree in Economics and Geography. Since finishing college I have decided to completely commit myself to achieving my goal competing at the highest level of my sport, at the Olympic Games in Rio. I have moved closer to the National Rowing Centre, Cork so I can train full time. My rowing achievements to date are silver medal at the European Junior Championships 2010, 6th place at theWorld Under23 Championships, 12 National Championship titles in the last 4years and the only Irish rower to compete at the Singapore Youth Olympics 2010.
