Claiming Margaret River - One step at a time

Pioneering is hard work.... ahem....


Meet Terry and Janice Bowdler.

They are walking the road of pioneering a new YWAM location in the south west region of Western Australia, with much more gusto than this photo above would lead you to believe! It was just a 'grab your attention' type of photo anyways (hehehe). It worked, did it not?!



God has entrusted the Bowdler family with Margaret River, a well know tourist town & surf spot that draws in tens of thousands of visitors each year. 

Many of those visitors are drifting through a season of life in search of their purpose. Often, these tourists are in need of the simple, yet powerful connection only a family can provide.  

Cue YWAM Margaret River Family


A group of Christ followers, committed to making space, serving others, and loving deeply. Whether it may be the weary traveller, or the searching soul, they will be welcome at YWAM MRF.

Additonally, the newly established base will invest into the local community and also come along students who join in for the Surfers Discipleship Training School. 



The Bowdlers' understand that within the beauty of Margaret River, there is a great need for restored relationship with the Father. 



2020 is YWAM MRF's inaugural year, and the Bowdler's, as well as their growing team, need practical and miraculous provision to get running and to make what can seem impossible at times, possible. 

What was that? Did you say we should go running?

Good idea.


Drum roll (proceed to hit your own thighs...) fanfare, trumpets, fireworks!!!

This is where I should introduce myself. I am Sally. My family and I serve alongside the Bowdler fam at YWAM Perth, soon to be the Bowdler's sending base. We share life together, swap children,  camp in the rain and pretend it's fun, all while linking arms in various capacities to help each other carry the loads that come our way. They are friends like family. 

You should also know that I run. No, not away from anything (ok, maybe my life responsibilities - but I always come back!). I run because I love to run. Sometimes in circles, sometimes fast, sometimes slow. 




I have also managed to talk Janice into running... a lot. So much so, that I somehow talked her into not just one marathon, but two (*round of applause* slowly bow*). 

Marathon #1 evidence.  Janice may have lost some toenails after this one - all the best runners do! 



After I gave the marathon world a try, my interest in ultra marathons (any distance over a marathon distance 42k/26miles) was sparked. Fast forward a couple 50k races later, my eyes are now set on the Margaret River Ultra 80k in May. 


It was in a time of prayer, asking God if I should run the race, that I felt He spoke to me two things:

                                       1.  Run it to help raise awareness and funds for the Bowdler's
                                             upcoming pioneering year in Margaret River. 

                                       2. Physically running the ground, the entire coast of MR, will be a
                                            spiritual act of taking the land for God's purposes for YWAM MRF. 


Boom. Sign. Me. Up. 

Run an Ultra and claim physical land for God's advancements at the same time - can I get a hallelujah?

So here we are, creating a gofundme page so that you can have the opportunity to do just that - go fund me - so I can give it all to the Bowdlers and start partnering with God in making the impossible, possible. 


                                                                      WHAT IS OUR FUNDRAISING STRATEGY?

                                                                  Here is what Janice and I felt God spoke in prayer:

                                                                                               $100 per Kilometre

                                                                                           80 Kilometre Ultra Race

                                                                                             Total Goal: $8,000 AUD 




As full time volunteer missionaries, the Bowdler family rely on private donations from churches, friends, family and ministry supporters to cover the costs of their ongoing work. Regardless, they continue to press on and move into trusting God for the finances to sustain their new-to-be planted ministry in MR.

The funds raised will go directly to costs related to the YWAM Margaret River Family base which include accommodation, food, vehicle expenses, and everything in between!
