Central High Powerlifting Club

Because of demographics and the low socio-economic status of our clientele at Central High School in Davenport, Iowa, our students have limited exposure before high school to go to camps, be involved in structured sports and benefit from many of the opportunities that students in our neighboring school districts have. Our school is 111 years old and we have a rich tradition of excellence in sports, arts and academics, but in recent years, local economic changes have created an environment where our student-athletes aren't necessarily as prepared as students from more affluent districts.
We firmly believe that the key to our success in scholastic sports is intense strength training. All high schools have weigh training, but we want to take it a step further. We want to train our athletes to compete in powerlifting with the end goal of making them, "bigger, faster and stronger" for the state sanctioned sports. Further, we want to be on the cutting edge of this transformation by hosting official competitions for any high school athletes who may want to participate with us. What we need to get started is meager but the outcome has the potential to be mighty. We need specific equipment necessary to hold recognized, sanctioned powerlifting competitions. The equipment needed will cost about $5000. Please help us get started moving our athletes into the future.

Below is our Junior running back Kobe, deadlifting triple bodyweight in our first competition (with borrowed equipment).
