Christopher & Stacey Lewis Family

Donation protected
On Sunday, November 13th Stacey Lewis found her husband unresponsive and in the middle of a long seizure.  He was transported by ambulance to Sherman Oaks Hospital.  Stacey and Christopher's parents were told that all of his organs were shutting down and he had no hope of survival.  Chris remained in a coma through the night and the next day.  He had complete liver and kidney failure and an unknown blood infection.  The following day they were told by the many doctors treating that Christopher's chances of survival were "zero to none,,,one hundred percent mortality rate."  For the next several days family came from all over, including his 8 year old twin daughters....to say goodbye.

The twins wrote letters to their dad.  During the rest of the first week Christopher slowly began to wake up and recognize his family.  However the doctors continued to tell his family not to get their hopes up.  Stacey with POA got his final paperwork in order.  Stacy and Christopher's father discussed plans for the funeral service. Dozens of family and friends stayed at the hospital and nearby hotels in constant prayer. By the beginning of the second week, Christopher was talking more and one doctor even gave a little hope, "Have you ever heard the story of David and Goliath?

Over the next week he became more alert and recognized many friends and family.  At times he was confused,  His mind seemed to improve but he could not move any part of his body. The kidney doctor came in and said that they would only do dialysis if there was a chance of survival.  He then said that Christopher is known around the hospital as "the miracle guy".  Into the third week, Chris is talking more and starting to move with the help of physical therapy.  He receives dialysis every day.  In the near future if he continues to improve, he will be moved to a nearby hospice for dialysis and physical therapy.  If he is able to stand and get into a chair on his own, he will be brought to his parents home for recovery.  If he survives 6 months to a year, he will be eligible to get on a donor list for a liver transplant.  His father and 3 siblings have all offered to be a donor.  Chris will obviously be out of work for a long while.  Stacey works with special needs kids and adults.  She was not paid for the past 3 weeks while she was at the hospital.  Her paycheck was $24.  The family is asking for support to help with financial needs but also for transport each day to dialysis and other nursing care in the home.  He will also need to be on a very regimented diet which can get expensive.  Following is one of the letters one of the twins, Sadie wrote to her dad and put it on the wall near his bed.  "I love you. You are kind, sweet and funny. Thank you for buying us all the toys Lauren and I have.  Thank you for showing us magic tricks.  Thank you for teaching us some of them. I love you.  You can do a great job at anything.  I love you. Just because you love me I love you."  We believe that the "miracle guy" will once again be at home making magic with his girls. Thank you for helping make that possible.
